I believe your standard engine oils are of higher spec than ours in the US.

...hmm I am speechless I assume Brit you are saying UK Gen2 drain interval is 1.6 x 10K = 16000 kilometers

I my opinion it can handle 10000 miles very well if you're using a good quality oil and not doing too many short trips (especially doing a large percentage of highway miles). Here's a near perfect (very low wear metals) used oil analysis from 2008 Prius running a 12000 mile interval!

It may also have something to do with oil costing more in your part of the world and people there being more reluctant to flush money down the toilet than most USians are. I can easily find Mobil 1 synthetic for $25 for 5 US quarts, sometimes less if I look for bargains.

Yes 6000 miles with normal oil not synthetic? I don't think they specify the milage when using sythetic with the G-2 H

I switched back to dino three changes ago. Using Valvoline Max Life now and changing every 5000. That's about every two months at my current rate of travel. In that time, the engine uses a little over a quart, in the winter about a quart and a half. Pretty good for a car with over 134K on the ticker. I quit using Fram filters too, but not because of their reliability. The internet can cheaply supply me with genuine Toyota filters delivered to my house.

    That's still 5W30 right?

Apparently Maxlife is actually part synthetic. Should work just fine for 5000 mile intervals. :)

BTW. Have you tried their "Nextgen" maxlife, it's every bit as good as the regular stuff.

Brand: Mobil 1 5w30 5000 mile change on both Gen 1 (5 mile one way to work) with 145k and Gen 2 (44 miles a day)with 65k. Fram Tough Gard almost 100% of changes. Buy on sale local Farm and Fleet...
Neither '03 or '07 Prius burns or leaks any oil. Dipstick always just under full. Have found better to fill slightly below full at change for milage,,, may be windage losses with higher oil level?

Oh yeah, 5W30 always. Yes, I noticed that it is a blend. I should put a vote in the synthetic blend column then and join those other two lonely people. I have been getting the regular red container but the NextGen green bottle reads, well, pretty green. Recycled oil is oil after all. Have to check the price.
