I will be taking a road trip from NY to Asheville NC, then to Miami, then back to Ashville, on to New Mexico. Will be doing all day drives with no chance to plug in, what MPG can I expect? Two adults a nine year old and probably too much stuff.

Main factor will be the speed you're driving at.
    80 mph? About 42 mpg.
75 mph? closer to 48-49 mpg.
65 mph? might even get 55 mpg.

50mpg would be a good figure to shoot for.... sometimes you have to drive uneconomically to stay safe, keep up with traffic, etc...
The PIP has about 8.6 to 9 gal usable fuel (not counting the reserve) so you should be able to go 400mi or so between fill-ups.

Photau- are you down by Smith's Point by any chance?

50+ MPG. Also, you can charge enroute - best place I've found on my long trips is at gas stations if you plan ahead and gas up off interstates at gas stations which have convenience stores and are in the front parking lot sections of 80's-style strip malls. You fill up, then move to the nose-in convenience store parking slot, ask permission, then plug into the ever-present front wall 120V receptacle, then go eat / stretch legs / read a newspaper / shop for fruit and road sundries at the strip mall. This method nearly guaranteed me about 5 - 8+ e-miles per fillup / foodup during my cross-country trip last Summer. Was never ever refused permission to plug in - usually had curious onlookers by the time I got back to the car.

Low to mid 40s. If you look at the MPG Spreadsheet in this forum you will see that I routinely charge only once per fill up, with most of my miles on highways. (For the life of my car the EV to HV ratio is about 5 to 95.) I can tell you I have never gotten 50 MPG on a tank of gas.

To my brother's place in Va is approx. 430 miles. I use 95 and 85 for the trip and usually get fuel mileage in the mid 50's and at the minimum, do the speed limits. The calculation is with pencil and paper since the read-out is fairly optimistic.

I've done a few 100+ mile trips with family so far and have averaged the lowest 48mpg the best 56mpg all with single charge to start only. This is with 2-3 adults & 1-2 children & belongings. Your biggest factors are weight and speed. I've done these trips with the majority going 74 on I95 or Route 70. Elevation will play a roll but the majority of your trip you won't have much. My Gen3 I was able to pull off 48mpg with 3 adults 1 child and car full of camping gear stuffed in. The PIP impresses me how its able to pull off better mpg even still after carrying 120lb more dead weight with the battery depleted. Just in case any were wondering I weigh 240, Mrs 165, Daughters 125 & 46 + car seat + Sub box 52lbs. Just added our Son in the last couple months so 30 more with seat = roughly 650lbs+.

    Regardless have a great trip!

I have to ask; What it worth the premium buying the PIP versus regular Prius since you don't plug it in regularly? Were there other factors - tax credits, special HOV lane access, preferred parking at work, etc?

I don't have a PIP but it appears you'll get similar mpg's on long trips. From SC to NY and back, I averaged just over 50 mpg this past Thanksgiving with brand new tires (Ecopia EP422's). I checked the upcoming temps and decided to grill block since it wasn't going over mid-50's. On I-95 average speed ranged from 60 - 75, used cruise control when possible, except for one stretch where it took 3 hours to go 90 miles on the trip up.

    O.k. first leg done.
    306 miles
Free sailing till the last hour, where it was 10 miles of stop and go, heavy traffic.
There was a strong headwind, i was driving at anywhere from 60 to 75 mph.
Three people 380 pounds worth w two sets of skis and boots etc etc.
48 MPG. Average speed before the traffic was 58 mph, after the heavy traffic mph average was 41.

I just did a 360ish mile drive from LA to Phoenix in my brand new PiP and averaged 48.8 mpg.

We are in New Mexico, got my 5000 mile service in Albuquerque NM. I asked them to lower the tire pressure, we will be on snow and some dirt roads, and Taos is around 7000' .
    They didn't do it.
Total trip average which includes ripping across Texas at 78 mph(speed limit was 75) has been 50mpg. Here in Taos for over a week we have averaged 60 mpg. We can plug in where we are renting. Also was able to find free charge point (solar) on trips down to Sante Fe.
Have been able to generate over 3 ev miles from empty coming down from the ski valley.
PiP has done nicely on the snow. Nothing deep yet.
