I purchased a Toyota PIP and received two keys. Is there a 3rd key ? My window sticker shows 3 keys.

Are you sure the window sticker is showing 3 keys? 2 keys is standard.

Could it be saying 3-door SKS ? That would mean the two front doors and the liftback door operate with the SKS touch sensors.

I will check the sticker later, I only got two keys and was wondering about it when I looked over the paperwork. I had my PIP since mid Oct 2012. I've been enjoying the solo driver in hov/carpool lane for a short time. Only regrets about this PIP is the Chevy Volt seems superior in ev miles. Tesla burned me so I decided to get PIP.

2 keys is what I got. Pretty much every car I've bought in the last 15 years has come with 2 keys standard.

My wifes' 2012 Elantra came with 3 keys. Two fobs with hidden key and a valet key. I doubt the Prius has a valet key though.

I'd forgotten about the valet keys we got with the minivans. But in terms of keyfobs, only 2 per car.

I think what you may be reading on the sticker is "3 Door Smrt Key Sys, Rmte Keyless Entry" which actually means the remote keyless entry system (smart keys) works on only the front doors and the rear hatch.

Yup, PiP has Smartkey system for 3 doors, as a standard feature. That means, you can open the driver door, passenger door and rear hatch with the key fob in your pocket.

The regular Prius lower trim has only one Smartkey door (driver).

I realize this is a little off-topic, but can you expand on the Tesla bit?

    That's what I think.

2010+ Priuses can come w/1-door or 3-door smart key. Per 2013 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Models "Smart Key System [15] on three doors with Push Button Start and remote illuminated entry" is standard on the PiP.

I've never heard of new Priuses coming w/3 keys. They come with 2.

    Huh?

Do you understand the difference between 3-door SKS and 1-door (driver's door only) SKS?

edit: Oh... nevermind, I guess you're referring to your Tesla Model S order.

Which battery capacity did you have on order? Did you also select air suspension?

Mine only came with 2 as did my 2008 Prius so I believe that is the standard?

The third key is usually the valet key so that you can lock valuables in the trunk that you don't want the valet to get access to. The valet key won't unlock the trunk on notchbacks. It's not applicable to the Prius because you can access the trunk without opening the hatch. Hence, only 2 keys.

I get Volt envy every once in awhile too because of the higher EV range. But keep in mind the Prius can carry 5 passengers versus the Volt's 4. Plus the Prius has superior cargo capacity with seats folded up or down. Pretty good trade off either way in my opinion. If I wasn't a family fan... I could afford a used Tesla roadster and forget this gasoline stuff.

I recently bought a used Highlander Hybrid, and it came with only one SKS key. So I bought a second one, and the dealer charged me $500. This includes about $70 for the mechanical key, and around $140 to pair the SKS key with the car control unit. :( The dealer explained that with the Gen I Prius, if you lost all the keys, that they had to replace the ECU in the car with a new one plus its key, but Toyota caught so much flack for this, that they eventually just started to replace the ECU for free in this situation. Gen II and above allow the SKS settings in the ECU to be reset using some super-secret process.
