I've been drag racing Corvettes for years, so in my tradition, I took my Prius to the drag strip the day I got it (temp tags and all).

    Here's the Prius - 0-60 in 10 seconds, ran 11.3 @ 67 mph in the 1/8 mile.

    Here's the Vette. 0-60 in 2.6 seconds...on my way to a 10.91 @ 128 in the 1/4 mile.

    Not much of a comparison.

But for my daily drive in Miami bumper to bumper, you can't beat the Prius (well my friend in his Leaf can). My 52.7 so far in my second tank (with no drag strip runs) is a welcome change from the 21 mpg (premium) the Vette gets. I about fell over when the first tank in the Prius took only 8 gallons for 370 miles. The Vette can't go 370 miles on one tank unless you tow it!

No way you ran 11.3 seconds in the 1/4. What did you mean to say?

    I didn't say 1/4 mile I said 1/8 mile. Look above.

Hey Joe-G! Welcome to Priuschat. Way to represent with Prius out there, I'm all for it! Drag race, track race, just put 'er out there and compete! I think you lost some traction on Prius and needed to burn out first ... J/K :)

btw, do you use separate front brake during burnout? Also, we're you racing near Sacramento?

I'm a mild NHRA fan now. Was huge fan as young teen. Still have signed photo with Don Prudhomme taken in '76 at Fremont Raceway, later Baylands. Still catch races on ESPN. It's Winternationals weekend!

As can see, I got way more into motorcycles. I wouldn't mind a few blasts down 1/4 mile in a car.

The sound of that Vette screaming down the 1/4 mile released endorphins in my brain!

Did you use the stock tires on the Prius? I bet if you used a more
Grippy tyre you would do even better.

Umm I'm sure it didnt spin so grippy tires would be pointless on a Prius. Unless during autocross

The Prius did not spin its tires. The tire spin you hear is the little car beating me in the left lane.

I was the only guy he beat.

Cycle drum I do have a line lock but I'm in Ft. Lauderdale. My friend The Subfloor races his maroon c6 Vette at Sac about every weekend.

Oh, I know the wheel chirp was from the other guy. I was just being silly like you went up in wheelsmoke like a top fueler.

Is the 'line lock' what keeps you in place during the burnout? Or what keeps you in place during your Vette burnout?

Here's some old school floppers at OCIR 1981 Force and Prudhomme. Do you happen to know why they did all the dry burnout antics back then but not now? Are clutches different now. Just curious. :)

The line lock is a solenoid in the front brake line that when energized, maintains pressure on the front brakes, locking them, allowing the rear brakes to be free. I can keep the car in place without the line lock if I want but the line lock is easier on the differential.

Now days the water box allows you to get your tires wet so they start spinning easier. You quickly burn the water off.

I generally burn out for 8 seconds. It's a habit that I don't think about any more, I just do it. I look for tire smoke in both mirrors.

Some guys do long burnouts for show...John Force comes to mind. :)

Here is another run from the outside.

Sweeeet! fun to ride along. Now we want to know: how much fuel did you burn in each run? heh heh.

I ran a tank of fuel out of the Corvette on the track at Sebring in two hours...8.37 mpg.

But the car gets 20.5 on average. I've tracked all its fuel since new. 4.10 gears took away 1 mpg and the big cam I put in took away 2 mpg avg...more in the city as idle is very inefficient with a big cam, as you can hear below.

This tank, with three top speed runs, got only 16 mpg but that's not bad for as much time as I spent at WOT...

This was at a timed mile event on a runway. I did three such runs. It was a blast.

As good as the Vette is on the track, the Prius is on the commute. Nice to have an excellent tool for each job now. ;-)

Yes, as they say, "horses for courses" I filled my Dakota today, $72 for 348 miles. I also filled the Prius, $38 for 499.9 miles. The Prius is great for going back and forth to work and school, but it doesn't do too well at towing our camper!

I'll be racing next weekend down near Ft Lauderdale. Racing - yeah - racing my recumbent tricycle on the flat course and the oval in Brian Piccolo park!

Out of curiosity, do you have the timeslip from your 1/8 mile Prius race, just for some perspective and to give others an idea of the time delta?

I've never raced on a 1/8 mile track, but OTOH, the Gen 3 Prius on a 1/4 mile is somewhere in the mid 17s or low 18s on the 1/4, which puts it about on par or a bit slower than most current econoboxe.

(For those who've never drag raced, having someone that's 2 seconds quicker on the 1/4 is pretty big. I've kicked other people's butts in my former cars and vice versa.)

My fastest car, my former 350Z (w/an automatic, yeah, please don't shoot me) (OTOH) managed low to mid 14s, at best. Watching your Corvette run is insane. Geez! 10.91 is very fast in my book and is MUCH faster that anything I've ever driven (on or off the track).

Then again, I've seen some crazy modded cars run sub-10s (maybe 7s or 8s in the 1/4).

My Z was either governed or drag limited at ~155 mph, but I'd never had the chance to take it anywhere near that fast. :(

I hear you about the mileage. My Gen 2 Prius got about 2x the mileage of my former Z. When I had a long commute w/about 2/3rds highway, I'd only manage 23-24 mpg in the Z on premium.

When I lived in WA and had very short drives, esp. cold, I'd only see 13-17 mpg. :( And, while up there in winter, even w/some grille blocking, I'd be lucky to break 40 mpg on a tank.

I do have the tickets, not handy, but I remember them.

The Prius was pretty consistent at:
    2.8 60 foot time
    11.3 @ 65 1/8 mile time

    The Vette runs
    1.4 60 foot time
    6.9 @ 99 mph 1/8 mile time

I have 494 runs on the stock OE clutch in that vette. I have 72,000 miles and 494 passes and still get 4 1.4 60 foots in a row a couple of weeks ago...always launching at 6,000 rpm. The beauty of the Vette is it still gets decent mileage and I've been commuting in it for 8 years, it does very well. It's a very docile car, not a race car.

Not as good as the Prius though on the commute. I love when I'm in bumper to bumper and my engine is off for 10 minutes putting forward.

I scan the runs and tune the Vette using HP Tuners, adjusting fuel, spark, every engine parameter.

Is there a similar product like HP Tuners for the Prius? I'd like to go faster and farther on battery...HP Tuners lets you change all such parameters on the Vette.

Wow. I actually meant the time of the car that beat your Prius, since it's visible in the video.

I've never heard of HP Tuners, but I unfortunately, don't know OTOH of anything that'll do what you want. You can view a ton of stuff with ScanGaugeII : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge and GenIII Prius Custom PIDs for Torque app | PriusChat. I have a ScanGauge II and no Android device.

I know that people have used Scangauge to send the right CAN message to turn off the reverse beep on the Gen 3 Prius (instead of having to use Toyota Techstream) and maybe a few other things. But what you seek may not be possible or is unknown.

That's a nice Corvette you have.

    One time I indicated 160 on a 2004 R1, but can't say where :)

btw, F8L here used to drag race cars I think at Sac raceway. There was another guy around here who was a long time drag racer.

I had a friend in 6th grade named Brad Armstrong who's father was Dale Armstrong who was Kenny Bernstein's crew chief for many years. Dale drove an alcohol funny car in '76 time frame. Got to tag with the crew one race in Fremont, follow down strip after runs. Made it to finals but was beat by his nemesis, Ken Veney in Veney's Vega.

Back in late 70's, the nitro funny car bodies resembled actual street cars like Monza, Vega, Barracuda, Mustang, Corvette and it was addictive to watch. Jungle Jim, Blue Max, Mongoose and Snake, .... it was all very exciting for this 13 year old :)
