Can an EV Mode button be easily added to a Prius One? If so - where do the wires connect to?

Maybe I'm' misunderstanding your question but there is an EV button. It's on the console next to the ECO and POWER mode buttons. At least that's the case on my 2012.

If you mean a gen II prius (which would mean that this is in the wrong forum), Yes, you can add a button. Do a search on the forum to find more information than you could want.

This is a 2012 Prius Two. Mine has a blank cover where the EV mode button would be next to eco and power mode buttons.

You could probably add the switch, but you may also need the harness and some programming.

Right - I'm looking for anybody who has done this that knows exactly what's needed. Where to wire the switch to or if anybody has even done it.

I would doubt that any programming is needed. As the Gen II US version has all programming intact, but no button (The European version has the button. EV mode in the Gen II basically consists of grounding a single pin. I wouldn't expect Toyota to remove the programming for a Model when they didn't for an entire country's cars.

The easiest way to find out is to pull the console cover. If the harness has all three connectors, buy the switch and plug it in. If it works, great. If not, it's back to the drawing board.

I am hoping it's the same in the Gen III. I searched but haven't seen anybody do it yet.

Don't understand how my 2010 II has an EV button, but not on your '12 two? That's odd...

I agree it's weird... First I thought it was only on Threes and up. I wonder what makes the distinction whether a car gets one or not in the first place?

Sounds like you have an One, and not a Two. Do you have the Smart Key System?

Just dug out the 2012 brochure I picked up when I bought my car, it shows EV, ECO, PWR are standard for Two to Five. Take it back to the dealer and ask. Maybe the guy on the assembly line did not get the correct Bill of Materials and built it partially to One spec.

If they sold it to you as a Two, this should be a warranty item.

I just looked at the 2013 brochure and it shows that all levels have the EV button.

It's just so freaking odd... If all Prii have the capability, why would they skimp out on a button and some wiring?

I doubt they'd give on it being a warranty issue. Might be on my own to figure this one out!

Maybe it was built on a Monday morning or a Friday afternoon. :D

I really think you should ask the dealer. It could be an error like someone else said above.
