This is a clip from a downloaded version of the Canadian Owners's Manual Supplement, and to be fair, it varies from the version I've got sitting in the glove box. Toyota's not exactly organized in their statements. Anyway, what the clip seems to be saying is Camry (including hybrid), Sequoia, Sienna, and Tundra get transmission/transaxle fluid change at 72 mo / 96000 km. All others, good forever I guess, LOL.

Because the other transmissions are conventional automatic transmissions with friction material that wears by design and ends up in the fluid.
I removed your sarcastic musings on Toyota's plan for world domination.

All i see is a waste of 2 pint glass'...

Send it off to a lab, usually it costs about 10$ with postage included. I sent many, many many samples for cogen engines out in my time and I very rarely could tell you the results before I got them back.

Ignorance is bliss. A lady. On Prius chat, Gen 2 remarked " I didn't even know the car had a battery", this after problems with the 12V battery, after owning the car 7 years. NOT TPLUS!

On a receipt from a Canadian Dealership, it's:

    Part No / Description: 90430-18008 / Gasket

Could be you're overthinking this though: at the parts counter just asking for the transaxle drain/fill bolt washer will work.

Thanks for bringing up the reminder, as my PiP approaches one year and 20,000 miles.

85 mile r/t commute to work, Alameda to Sunnyvale. The commuter lane sticker is like gold to me.

hey, that's almost as long as the 110-mile Berkeley→Cupertino commute I decided I didn't want to do at all and started taking Amtrak…

I checked the Prius Maintenance Guide. It doesn't recommend replacing the transmission fluid at all, only inspections. But it mentions inspecting the Transmission fluid and the differential fluid.

So with all the talk of replacing the transmission fluid, what about the differential fluid?

There is no separate differential fluid.

Really? Then I wonder why they tell you to check it. Odd. Maybe it's a generic thing they apply to lots of different cars?

I'm 99% sure that this also applies to the Plug-in, but I've been referring to the manual for the conventional hatchback.

I searched far and wide on PriusChat, and the conclusion is that Prius does not have a "Transmission," it has a "Transaxle," which means that the transmission and differential are combined together. Ergo, "Transmission Fluid" and "Differential Fluid" are one and the same in a Prius. There is no separate place to check, change or add Differential Fluid.

I wrote an e-mail to Toyota, telling them they need to fix their maintenance guides.

Just to be perverse I'll point out that there are transaxles that use separate lubricant for their differentials. But the Prius doesn't.
