Jiffy Lube scam, i could see that. Last year took my mom's car in for service, '92 Mazda 626. They sold me on transmission oil change also. That was a mistake. Turns out they don't drop the transmission pan, they only suck the fluid out of the dipstick port. Had transmission slipping for a while, but it's gone away thankfully.

Point was Jiffy's lube and similar service centers marketing to convince everyone 3k mile oil changes were necessary.

Scams...that can be anyone but we can decide where we bring it to.. I'm just telling you to know when.

I third that one. Went in with a 19 year old Mazda 626 just for an oil / filter change. Next thing they are showing me the color of its tranny oil vs. their new tranny oil. I knew it had been a 3 or so years since changed, so went for it. What they didn't say is they take the shortcut of sucking the oil out of the dipstick port. this caused transmission slippage under certain conditions. It stopped after a few months.

I'll never go back to Jiffy Lube for any vehicle.

Mine are posted here up to the 40K change. I'll post the 50K UOA here shortly.

Here's my 50K UOA, along with some prior ones for reference: I now commute about 400 miles/week, so lots of highway miles. The 15K and 25K UOA's are samples drawn from the dipstick hole - not oil changes. I too was skeptical of the 10K oil change interval until I obtained these reports.

Doesn't surprise me at all. With my Old Accord, one time I let them talk me into a coolant flush and exchange. I watched them, they did NOT do it, then they apologized and "did it" outside the bay in the parking lot.

I can't prove it, because the Accord over was 15 years old, but it had been running perfectly. Shortly after that shoddy "Coolant Flush and Exchange" my radiator died. This resulted in a whole new radiator being needed as well as the engine which had been perfect, suddenly leaking oil because of the burnt gaskets when the engine overheated.

Never had a speck of engine problems or radiator problems until I made the mistake of letting Jiffy Lube do anything outside of an Oil Change.

Yeah, I'm never going back to a Jiffy Lube or similar outfit, I just don't think you can trust them.

I won a free oil change at the localJiffy Lube as a raffle prize back in the early 90's.
Not knowing any better- I brought my car in for the free service. I was shocked to see the "technician" putting the oil drain plug back in using a 1/2" air impact wrench! Not a 3/8" air ratchet... but a true 1/2" air impact wrench- the same tool they use to remove & replace tire lug nuts! And- to make matters worse- he didn't even hand start the plug- the just power threaded it in the whole way with the impact wrench.
Needless to say- I never returned to Jiffy Lube after that.

Someone with a bit of business savvy could likely come up with a viable alternative to Jiffy Lube and the rest of that ilk. Kind of a "Luscious Garage" for oil changes only.

OK, enough with BS! Can anyone point me where it says 10K miles in owner manual?
The maintenance booklet still states 5K miles or every 6 months.

In Canada it's 8000 km (~5000 mi) or 6 months. But in the States Toyota's saying 10,000 miles or yearly, whichever comes first. This is from a pdf from US Warranty and Maintenance Guide:

    As an aside....

After my car had 40,000 miles on it, I did an oil analysis. The results came back with good marks and the assessor at Blackstone commented that the car could probably go another couple thousand miles between oil changes should I desire to do so (I don't desire to do so).

Your Mileage May Vary. Past performance is no guarantee of future returns. Etc.

Long and short, with modest driving and synthetic oil, your car should be able to do well with 10k oil changes.
