Not if done correctly. I power my JL HD900/5 Amp off the 12V, with turn on through ignition/Start. Don't forget to fuse it.

So long as you are always in Ready when you use it, no. The Prius has a comparatively small 12 volt battery, but in Ready mode it gets supplied with up to 1000 watts through the much larger HV Battery, which is itself recharged by the engine as needed.

    fianlly the job is done.

i wasnt going to spend too much on it but just because stock stereo is just garbage thats why I came up with theae moda.

    Avionixx mono 4ch AMP

    Brand X 10" sub

    spent $400 with labor

all door stock speakers ran into the amp.

Had NO IDEA that the OEM speakers could go this loud lol.

my next step is getting Boston Speakers with tweeters up front and get bigger subs.

I sure hope you're prepared for the possibility someone might break into you car and steal all this stuff. :(

If you have anything visible that's aftermarket, that makes you a more likely target of theft. :( Had my old 91 Camry broken into for its car stereo long ago (that was the only thing aftermarket). Lost a CD wallet full of mostly store bought CDs too. :(

Had my Prius broken into after being parked ~30 mins in the driveway of a house of someone I was dating after I'd inadvertently left a fanny pack in the back. :( Lost my cell phone, iPod Shuffle, PDA and Jawbone earpiece. Had to pay $200 to fix the broken window and it wasn't covered by insurance as my deductible was too high.

I wouldn't have minded upgrading the crap stereo in my former 350Z if there were no such thing as auto theft.

Call me a bit perplexed as I recall in your insurance thread, you were going w/such minimal coverage. Too low a coverage and getting into an accident can spell bad news (e.g. crazy/lying other part could sue you big time, for well beyond your coverage and deplete your savings, assuming you have any).

No way. but don't forget to tune down your equalizer's 28kHz channel. Otherwise the row of 28 cells may enter the harmonic frequency with the woofer and get cracked ;)

I have been running my full system with a JL HD900/5, 3 way Heartz audio speakers up front, hertz coaxials in the rear off a Arc Mini 2ch amp and a Hertz 10" sub in my car for over 2 years and have had no issues. I haven't had as much time to spend on the forums as of late but if you look back, you'll see I was one of the first people to go big with an aftermarket stereo in the Gen. III's. No problems what so ever.

Maybe your tune would be different if you were the victim of car break-ins, esp. multiple times and also had some incidents hit close to home like these:

    - Advice - rims/tires got stolen - Maxima Forums happened a few blocks away from where I used to live. I had an 02 Maxima GXE (lowest trim) that came w/stock alloy wheels. I drove over to that apartment complex to confirm what happened to the OP. That apartment complex and mine were within ~1 mile of the Microsoft main campus. It's not a bad/high crime area.

    - My Maxima also came w/stock HID headlights and I used to see at least 1-3 posts/week on maxima.org of someone in NY or NJ having their stock HIDs stolen, sometimes multiple times. Replacement costs for a new pair of assemblies was $1356/pair in addition to any body damage the thief causes. Posted about it at Newbie Questions re Prius "premium price" | Page 2 | PriusChat. Plenty of coverage in the press like at In New Jersey, They Steal the Blue from Your Eyes - Column - Car Reviews - Car and Driver and
Cadillac Escalade & Nissan Maxima Top Theft Targets - Motor trend News
. Of course, I had no idea this would happen as I bought the car new at end of 01. I was concerned the theft trend would spread to my region.

The 02 was the 1st model year of Maxima to come w/HIDs standard, regardless of trim level. 02-03 had them standard. They were ditched as being standard starting w/04 (and a new gen of Maxima)..

    - When I lived in Seattle, someone broke into the secured garage underneath the building and stole a resident's car stereo and speakers.

    - When I was attending UCLA, a friend of mine got his Civic broken into. They stole his car stereo, speakers and campus parking permit (they were $150 - $200/quarter, IIRC). It was parked in dorm campus parking.

    - AGES ago, before car stereos had detachable faceplates, someone broke into my uncle's VW Rabbit and stole the factory Blaupunkt stereo. The cut some wiring too so the electric radiator fan wouldn't work afterward. He ended up having to buy an "audio safe", that went over the it.

No, but I'm just saying that installing and/or leaving anything in a car that is visible and seems to be of value, makes it a target vs. one that has no mods/no visible mods. :(

As I said, earlier, if there were no such thing as car stereo theft, I'd have upgraded the crap stereo in my former Z long ago.
