Just thought I'd start a thread as the other this is posted refers just to model Five. This mod should be good for any '12 Prius v so here's kind of a cut and paste of what is necessary:

Here is an update of what I realize needs to be done. I stand corrected, the correct DRL Module, (have to figure out if this is the same as Relay) has 6 pins that all need to be connected.

I don't know what the letters translate to color wise but I can summarize with the letters as shown on the schematics.

All connections to the DIM Relay will be removed and connected to a DRL Module/Relay. (There is an exception, the line W from DIM 2 may need to be separated from line B/DRL 1 which you will move line B to the DRL module.) Sorry, this one is a little confusing.

from 20A H-LP HI MAIN line B is disconnected from DIM 3 and connected to DRL 6

from Main Body ECU 22 to connector 2C 22 line Y disconnected from DIM 1 and connected to DRL 4

from Main Body ECU 25 to connector 2C 35 new line L to DRL 2

remove from DIM 5 line B and connect to DRL 1
remove from DIM 5 line R and connect to DRL 5

New line W-B from DRL 3 to ground A3 of the LH headlight assembly. Looks like you attach it to another line W-B.

    Done, DRLs...

    For the 22 to connector 2C 22 and 25 to connector 2C 35

the first number is the pin from the Main Body ECU, in this case 22 and 25

The second number is the pin number in connector 2C, so look for connector 2C and the pins are 22 and 35.

I haven't figured out what the Relay/Module part number is, but I think it is a relay that goes in the fuse box. Anyone know if there is an electronic parts catalog I can access on TIS? Also, please don't blame me if for some reason this doesn't work for you.

The best DIY guide is pictorial with text showing the novice what needs to be bought and where the components are and how the connections are made. I'd kill for a tested DIY guide as mine doesn't have DRLs and I'd pay to have em.

Yes, but I kind of have to figure out what is in the two different relays to sort out the wiring first, then I can test, then say/show exactly what to do. The reason for posting now is the hope that someone could lead me to more information so I can figure things out. (I'm also not brave enough yet to remove the two bolts to the fuse box, to take a peek underneath. I'm going to try to sort out what's in the next paragraph first anyways...)

I found a website with a .pdf of pics and some diagrams of a whole bunch of relays, but only has pictures of the two that I'm interested in. I guess it is against policy to post a web link because when I tried the post would not go through. As soon as I removed the link it went through fine. They are 90987-02025, (non-DRL), and 90987-04010, (what I think is the DRL relay), if anyone is interested in them at this point. If you Google search those two a .pdf link will come up, I think second on the list...

I'm hoping it's not too difficult for anyone, but I'm still going to have to search for the Main Body ECU and try to access the connector there. If it is, at least you could take it somewhere that an electrician could just follow, and not rip you off in the process. TIS has information and part numbers to repair the harness at the ECU connection side, which I would just use to add the one connection that I think is needed there. The other connection that I think needs to be added is just ground to the relay, but I'm going to have to find the easiest spot to reach from the fuse box.....

Got some other things on my plate of life so to speak as well. But I kind of love this stuff so I work at night when I can't sleep. Forgive me if I get confused at times because of the lack of sleep though!

90987-04010 should work in place of the 90987-02025, but I haven't figured out how to wire it as DRL yet...

I just turned on my headlights and never turn them off. They go off automatically when you open the driver's door* and come on again when I start the car.

*There is a delay that is by default set to 30 seconds, I turned off the delay

This is a very good point! Thank you.

Is there any issues with dimming of the instrument cluster?

It's kind of weird to have full lighting on, ie. the parking lights and license plate lights, though.

The v has an eye on the passenger side dash that controls dimming with daylight, so it often dims on underpasses. Both the sensitivity and the delay are options all v owners can change, no need to go to the dealer.

Those are 5 watt bulbs not much electrical drain. My normal commute is a two lane road of several 8 mile straight aways, I want other cars to be able to judge how far away I am when they pass.

I thought that once you turned on your headlights, your dashlight dims. I could not imagine changing your dashlight settings for day time and night time. That is if you want to use your headlights as DRL.

For the v, this happens NOT to be the case. (at least in the US, not sure about 'somewhere')

In the engine fuse box, the DRL relay is missing for US version. Also observed that the slot were you plug the DRL relay has a raised plastic. I guess to prevent a relay to be installed but this can be cut off by a dremel tool. I was looking at some of the relay and part # 8264247020 - don't know if this is the right part number but got this from this site. It runs about $170.

Took a picture of the fuse box. The circled slot was suppose to be for the DRL relay but the plastic has been extended up. I'm suspecting it was intentionally made that way so you cannot plug a relay - relay plugs will become short and no contact can be made. I looked at some of the relay for DRL with 5 pin connector and they run around $18-20 shipped. I was thinking that this plastic extension can be easily modified by cutting it with a dremel tool to shorten it so a relay can be plugged in there. In this picture, I took away the relay beside it that is present in our V's so to have a good look at the slot.

If there are Canadian owners that will share the picture of their fuse box with the DRL relay taken away for comparison, that will be great.

jzchen, why not go to the local Toyota dealer and check out their fuse box? I know it is a hassle. But it will be a good try.

I'm outside AAA waiting for them to open. It doesn't show on my phone, but I suspect your car is not a wagon. I think you can just push down on that relay slot. My empty slot is not raised. It is not populated with connectors. The thing is it would be very helpful to confirm the relay part number on a Canadian model. I suspect the high beams are run in parallel for high beam and serial when in DRL mode. I don't know if the bulbs allow to reverse the positive and negative, but it would make things a little easier to wire as well. I hope to not be shy and call the dealer today. A Canadian dealer quoted me over $400 for the relay, but wisely gave no part number....

Hmm. Is this the underhood fuse box towards the driver side? There are three relay slots in a row on mine towars the front of the car. Two are populated. One is DRL/DRL Module, one is FAN, and one just says DRL, which is empty. I'll verify when I get home...

For some reason that is not the same fuse box. Here's a picture of mine:

They are definitely not the same....

Called a local dealer. The part # is 82642-47020, used a Canadian VIN to find it, and parts guy said it is notated CND. It's pricey. Gonna order one, but it's going to take a little time to get to me....

I checked my v, there IS a daytime setting on the dial to the left, but I am on night. It stays bright as the light detector says it is light out. I bet if I had it on day, it would not get dimmer under overpasses.

Just my two cents... Fuse-taps are one thing, but but the last place I would be de-populating and modding, let alone Dremel'ing relay guards away, is sub-panel wiring populating slots in the underhood or dashboard fuse boxes. I suspect the latter would be an immediate case of "KYWG" - Kiss Your Warranty Goodbye.

That's why I mentioned about comparing the US and Canadian fuse box to give you some idea.
