Its probably got something to do with the pressure change in the tires when the temperature drops.

I check my tire pressures frequently with a digital gauge and I don't see that much change. So, I don't think you would see such a wide range in mpg from the tire pressure changing by a few psi (50*-75*).

I think the bigger impact is the use of cabin heat when it gets colder. Using heat will cool down the engine faster when in EV along with the engine staying on longer when you stop. That tends to reduce your mpg.

Personally, my trip mpg's only chaged by only 2-3 mpg the first week of May (our warm spell). I normally get about 52-53 displayed mpg (on dry roads) on my 32 mile (each way) commute. During the first two weeks of May, I averaged 55-56 displayed mpg's. You can see my tank info from my Fuelly.com signature.

I did my first short road trip - 175 miles round trip. Highest speed was 70, but ranged between 55 and 65 since I didn't want to go more than 5 over the limit. I still have a couple days before filling up but I already know this will likely be my worst tank so far, unless I can get my mpg's up over the next 125 miles!

I did a bit better on this tank than I thought; 44.7 mpg - right at my average. I thought I would be somewhere between 40 and 42 so I'm happy with the results. I have to do the same road trip again this week, most likely during the day when I have to use a/c so it will be good to see the mileage impact.

Last summer when I drove to the ocean and it was warm out I got close to 50 mpg. It is fairly flat terrain so it all depends on if you live on a hilly place or live in a flat hot place. This week my Prius is averaging around 47mpg but the temperatures around here are in the mid 70s.

51.7 mpg on last fill-up. I had driven about 520 miles, mostly highway driving for a trip out of town, using air conditioning much of the time. It was so nice to drive 200+ miles to my destination, do a bit of driving locally, then come home and still have plenty of range left in the tank!

Currently the display is showing 54.9 mpg for the first 270 miles of this fill-up, mixture of highway and local driving. I'm hoping to bump it over 55 by the time I fill it up again, but when the wife takes the car she doesn't try to hypermile as I do.

    563.6 miles on tank
    Computer reads 46.3 mpg
She took 13.319 gal of fuel to refill
Fuel light on with range=1 mile. Didn't want to risk it so I filled up
This is my personal best on a tank of gas

So I guess this proves the v gas tank holds more than 11.9 gallons?

I could have shoved more fuel down her throat but decided thus was enough

I'm typically at 465 - 485 when I'm down to 0 miles to empty. The most I ever filled up was at 495 miles and 10.84 gallons. To me that was cutting it close. I typically let the pump shut off and then do another two clicks.

Do you fill up until you see gas at the top of the filler neck?

Very 1st trip to the gas station. Display indicated 45.8 MPG ave, actual mileage is 43.2 assuming it was really full from the dealer. 454.7 miles, took 10.52 gal. Still had one solid pip showing with a red indicator light on and less than 0 mile range showing.

I put Arco gas in my Prius last week because I was on empty and it was the closest gas station. My mileage went below 40mpg. This week I put Shell gas in my Prius and I am getting around 47 mpg. I wonder why Arco gas is so bad compared to other gas.

I'm confused because it appears I have a higher calculated MPG than displayed, where most people get the opposite.
I just filled up after depleting our first tank.

Drove 503 miles, filled with 10.11 gallons, range showed 13 mi. left. Avg. mpg showed 48.0, but 503/10.11 = 49.75.
    Am I missing something?

See if you can repeat this mileage over the next couple tanks. Maybe you didn't quite fill it all the way?
