Use the dipstick to keep up with it.
Honestly, adding a quart every 5 fill ups or so isn't the end of the world.
Otherwise buy a used engine and swap.

    That's a lot of miles...

Hey, maybe you don't need to change oil any more, let the engine do it. ;)

I would try the Mobil-1 High Mileage Formula 5W-20
It is formulated a little heavier and with additives to help reduce oil loss.
I would not expect a miracle but see if it helps.

When the 5W20 and 0W20 oils were embraced by the car industry (for fuel efficiency reasons), many folks were skeptical about impact on engine life. That was squashed by the extensive studies showing no excessive engine wear up to 150,000 miles (this is how car lifetime is defined).

No car maker cares what happens after 150,000 miles. Do you remember ODO maxing out at 299,999 km or miles in corolla/2nd gen prius? Planned obsolescence at it's best.

Time will tell how planned obsolescence was implemented in 3rd gen prius. Maybe oil consumption with 0W20 oils?

If your vehicle were brand new and exhibited this level of oil consumption, you would not have a warranty claim (see below). Just add oil as needed, still using the best oil, and check back at 250K miles.

It basically means there is no warranty whatsoever on the oil control rings. This is about standard industry-wide, except for more allowance for oil consumption in Prius. Typically, it's 1qt/1000 miles.

Have you had it since new? If so, how was oil consumption then?

(Ours doesn't appear to consume any oil, or very small amount, at 38000 km's)

"junker engine",,,, No way... Maybe Middle Aged at most (y)(y)

Press on and keep track of oil consumption.

So what if you have to raise the hood every other fuel-up?

Some of these guys are still part of the throw it away culture.
