Switching back to EV during HV warmup

    Obviously this doesn't work if you are out of EV, but does anyone else do this? I figure I am essentially still in EV during the warmup cycle so I'd prefer to have that HSI up instead of the HV one.

    I am correct in assuming that the warmup cycle routes power and everything the exact same regardless of whether you are in HV or EV?

    The warmup in EV mode revs at 1,500 rpm.

    I am not sure if it is different than a regular Prius or PiP in HV mode. I know for sure Gen2 Prius revs lower during warmup.

    Once the ICE starts you can't do EV operation until coolant temperature is reached, 160F for the PiP, 130F for the non-plug-in. On a cold winter day that could take quite a while and lots of gas. That's why folks with a PiP and a full battery try to keep the ICE off until it is need to run the car. They do that by not "stomping" on the accelerator and not letting regeneration try to charge the battery if its already full.

    I guess I wasn't thinking full EV, just EV mode with little outline of the car.

    I am starting to dread winter up here (10000 ft in Colo), when the ICE might end up running for the full duration of a trip of 5-7 miles.

    Use heated seats. Air heater will turn on ICE but it will shutdown after 0.03 gallon.

    Yup. I routinely toggle the button, pushing it to start the engine with the want for it to automatically switch back to EV (or boost) as soon as warm-up is complete. The effect is the same as just dropping the pedal to fire up the engine. It doesn't matter when our how.

    The standard warm-up thresholds are 130°F for the plug-in and 145°F for the regular. Engine off is 114°F for both with in ECO.

    You are correct 130F before the ICE will shut off. I'm pretty sure When I had a standard Prius it was happy at about 106F. My ECO is always on.
