The factory fog light bulbs are 9006, 51 watt Type C bulbs according to the owners manual bulb replacement guide. Is this type of bulb available in amber and how is the bulb accessed?

I had the factory fog light switch on the signal light stalk deactivated and a toggle switch added to operate the fog lights independently of the headlights. The connection works in conjunction with the dash start/stop button to prevent the lights from remaining on when the vehicle is turned off. My purpose was to convert the fog lights to daytime running lights. I would now like to change the fog light bulbs to amber from the factory white.

Something wrong with that list as it lists stop lamp bulbs as 7440 and the Prius gen2 of whatever year has LED stop lamps that cannot be changed except by fitting a new rear light cluster.

I ordered the 9006 amber bulbs "just do it" wrote about. I rec'd them Friday and installed them today. The 9006 is the correct bulb. I watched the You Tube video on how to change the bulbs and the instruction made the change over fairly easy. My next waste of time will be to figure out how to aim the fog lamps up a bit.

Whoa, you might want to reconsider aiming the foglights higher, even for use as DRLs.

I can fully understand your desire to do what you're doing because I went through it before.

The 9006 bulbs are also the highbeam bulbs in the gen3 hatchback and run at full power they are very bright, even during the day.

DRLs that use the highbeam or lowbeam bulbs run them at reduced power for several reasons. Foremost, the reduced intensity will not glare into other driver's eyes, there will be less heat in the housing, and the warmer color resulting from driving the filament at lower power is actually easier to see during daylight hours against the bright white sunlit surroundings.

Have you considered using the webelectric module to use your amber turn signals as DRLs? I believe there are threads in this forum that discuss the webelectric DRL module, installation, and pictures.

Advantages of using your turn signal bulbs as DRLs are:

Lower power bulbs = less heat, won't glare into driver's eyes.

Also, the turn signals by design have a wider angle of visibility compared to your foglights, which are mounted pretty low.

Because he indicated wanting to aim them higher, thus negating any benefits of any glare shield.
