It's up to you, the ELM327 readers work well. I have the usb version, and others use the bluetooth versions.

If you get the BT one, you can use it to run the Torque app.

Oh great! Hmmm how about the iPhone one? I wonder if the app is good.

Ps: ok no app. Gotta buy them.

I've decided to keep my reverse beeps because I had a history of backing into a pole once a decade ago. So, I feel like I can't be too careful.

I have a BT ODB2 and the torque app. You say it is easy but and lots of people on the forum say the same but no one says how to do it. I am SO keen to get my UK 2013 Prius to just beep once on reversing. Can you detail what to do please? Thanks.

And I cannot find ANY iPhone version nor any iPhone app that will take codes so far. Very frustrating. Last thing I want is to be at the whim of my stealership.

It was easy and all the instructions were in a thread on the priuschat forum, however, my device is android and I don't recall any mention of an apple app.

Here. I just spent 60 seconds on a search and found this.

Nope, did not work on my v2 either. I think this procedure only works on 2009 and earlier.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.
To get this to work on the v, check out this thread. Basically, as I understand it, you have three options:
    1. Have it done at the dealership. Some people have gotten it done free, some have had minor hassles, but the dealer CAN do it easily and quickly.
    2. Buy/borrow a Scangauge - nice, but expensive. ($200? IIRC...)
    3. Buy/borrow a ~$16 Bluetooth adapter (ELM-327) and use your smartphone to turn it off. (This is what I did - see post #15 in the thread linked above for more details).

I searched a few "eliminate reverse beeping" threads here and many were outdated so can someone post the link on how to eliminate the reverse beeping as a DYI and not taking it to the dealer? Sounds like a few have done it and it is fairly cheap. Apparently 1 million threads but I only found about ten but they were outdated and didn't help with a 2014 year model.

    Thanks.

In a Gen 3 like yours, you need a OBDII programmer to change the continuous beep to a single beep. The dealer has one, I use a Scangauge II and there are others.

Some folks have luck with Torque software on an Android device talking Bluetooth to a ODBII dongle, I have not tried.

OK. Good to know. For $159 I might wait for the dealer ;-)

Check out Carista in the Google Play Store (Android only). It is what I used to change the reverse beeping to a single beep. It can change other settings too. You use it in combination with a bluetooth ELM-327 adapter. You can download it for free (to test with your adapter and find the settings it can see/change). You have to pay the $20 to upgrade to be able to change the settings.
