4th generation coming 2015!

    Hi Inferno, Thanks for your post. Yes, I am very much in the market for a G4 (not a 2014 though - I will wait). My G3 has been all that I could want. I have 81k on the odometer (5 X-country trips). Switching out the original tires for Michelin's Energy Saver tires was the single, best move I have made for a quiet ride and mileage.

    I'm not too interested in a plug-in. It just does not match with my needs/habits. Neither would I pay extra for a lithium battery, especially if there are improvements in the old. The existing battery has been absolutely trouble free, and is showing no signs of age.

    Maybe you have read my prior post, but I am predicting an early release of the G4 .... perhaps even spring of 2014. I hope. Good luck.

    Spring 2014? But that's way too soon considering the Gen III 2014 version is coming out in like a week. That would be awesome though, but no spy photos in the winter yet...

    I recognize what you are saying .... and you are probably correct. I just suspect the 2014 will be a slow seller (I have referred to it as a "place holder"). And, as you said, the competition is catching up. Toyota needs to do something significant. I consider my situation. I am in the market .... but I would not even consider a 2014. I just reason there are others that feel the same way.

    Look at several magazines and you will find articles about other manufacturers 2015 models. It's not all that uncommon for a manufacturer to release a new car very early, and call it the next years model.

    I could well be wrong .... it's just my speculation. It will be fun to see how it all works out.

    I tend to lend more on an early reveal of Gen IV, in january 2014 maybe. I don't think it will go on sale until at least the summer of 2014, maybe early autumn, thus nearly a year from now. That is the gap closed by the 2014 model(s). I also think that this could be one of the reasons of the lowered price on the 2014 Plugin, sell of as many as possible of the stock cars and components before the 2015 model is introduced. My speculations only of course.

    I bought my 2010 Prius in June of 2009. So an early release has been done before.

    I love these designs - one thing is for sure, red will be THE best selling color for Gen 4 prius - it was the same with Gen 3, all the prototype reveals were in white and I too went and got a white :)

    Someone mentioned the possibility of the NS4 coming out first and then Prius Gen 4, I actually think it will be the Prius Gen 4 that will be out first. We have various Toyota officials publicly saying Prius Gen 4 will be the first car to be built on the Toyota next generation platform which sort of corroborates this.

    The more I think of it, the idea that NS4 will be a totally new car and not related to Prius seems hard to believe. Currently, we have the Corolla/Auris HSD then the Prius and then Lexus CT200 or IS300 - all at various price points and NS4 will only confuse things even further. When the first Corolla/Auris HSD came out, it did not sell well here in the UK because there was the Prius very closely priced and for anyone going premium, there is the Lexus line CT200 and IS300.

    Anyway, can't wait to hear some concrete news.

    Design is all about personal taste, likes and dislikes.

    That said .... I like either of the top two better than the NS4.

    Sorry. Just my opinion.

    Gee, can you guess which design the fans like? :cool:.

    The Japanese one does look more realistic based on the spy shots we've seen. The question I want to pose to you guys is, "Is there a need for a Prius sedan?" If you want a hatch, go with the c, if you need the cargo space, go with the v and if you want a classic sedan, go with the classic sedan.


    My opinion is that Toyota should keep the hatchback. It's a good size (exterior - for parking & maneouvring) and spacious inside, good cargo carrying capacity (I've always been able to travel without folding the rear seats down but it's only with 2 or 3 passengers) and pretty good sightlines.

    I do not want to offend any Gen 3 owners .....However the prius V to me is obtuse and unappealing. The basic Gen 3 is fine. Some of the upgrades like electric water pump, disc brakes f&b where way overdue and available pre 2005...

    Question I have also read that future Prius C will have a separate rear drive axle electric motor ... ???

    I highly doubt they change the hatchback much. It is way too successful right now. Think about that from a business/economic standpoint (especially from a very conservative company). Why would you change one of your best selling vehicles? Doesn't make any sense. I trust the Japanese leak as well, not this new shot that has very little in the way of details and looks like it could easily have been photoshopped.

    I'd second that comment. The hatchback has been a perfect car for me and my needs. The V and the C are great additions to meet buyers with those needs, but as for me ..... no thanks.

    Only one question: Which of the three images is the "Japanese leak?"

    One of my several reasons for wanting a Prius is for the Hatch, don't care much for cars with trunk. SUVs has the space, poor mpg and not sure they should be driven at high speeds.

    Posted this earlier, Prius is packaged nicely, has as much passenger space as these other two. I would not change much, really!

    If the Specs are for next Gen IV Liftback, it is 2.7 inches longer, 1 inch wider.
    Now, if this is enough for 4 cu ft more interior space than Gen III, that would put Gen IV at 120 cu ft(large vehicle class), identical Specs of the Model S.

    So this suggests that the entire drivetrain is being carried over (!)

    I'm a little incredulous about wider, longer, lighter, cheaper, AND more fuel efficient.

    I take that back. If they went to an entirely different body style, I can see how it could be the first 4. If they went to a sedan body, they can reduce the glass and rear hatch weight while making the car longer. Perhaps the fuel efficiency increase might come about from the possibility they're still not getting the best aerodynamics they can from the current Prius' length.

    I think the HS250h is being used as test mule for the Fuel Cell vehicle. The Prius Hatchback sells well in Japan and here, so I would not expect much change, but lighter materials, some aluminum, I don't expect carbon fiber, maybe roof only.

    Stretching it a bit length-wise may help aerodynamics, and also if they get 4 more cu ft of interior space, it will be classified as a large vehicle. And a lot of little improvements;

    I have no idea what would be the better roof material, but I would like to see something more resistant to hail. My roof is not badly dented, but if you look close, there are dents. It is something I am concerned about whenever hail is forecast.
