I'd love to see pics and hear about install good and bad. Pretty much decided this is how I'm going to go. Touch screen, baby!

I have the JBL in my 05. Anything I need to be aware of on that front?

Very cool. How do you like the touch screen?

I watched a video on the install. Looked harder in pictures than it did when I saw the video. Pretty straight forward.

Does anyone have firsthand experience with how different the JBL set up is compared to base?

I'm working on mine right now... I have a Pioneer 7" that I am going to use, with 3 pairs of 4v preamps. I also am replacing the amp under the passenger seat with a 200W Alpine, and I already have a 250W 8" JL Audio sub in the back which I finally get to move off of speaker inputs. I have already installed Focal Integration FS165 component speakers in all 4 doors. Had to fabricate rings for the woofers, and for the rear tweeters I used the existing housings but dremeled them out to fit the new tweeters and I Sugru'd them in. For the front tweeters, I used the big housings that came with the tweeters, since I didn't like the way they fit in the sail panels. Looks pretty good, they are aimed directly at the listener. 50 sqft of Dynamat-like material are on the way as well... can't wait till it's all done.

My touchscreen is similar to vskid3's, but there are no physical buttons on the left.

I actually have a question, does anyone know for sure where the headlight wire is in the harness? I need it so my screen will dim automatically at night.

I like the touchscreen, mainly because it makes it easy to navigate the files of my flash drive and change settings. Its a solid entry level unit if you don't need bluetooth, HD radio, or navigation. The AVH-X1500 is the newer version, and its even cheaper than what I paid for mine a year ago.
The harness I got for the Prius side of my install had a wire labelled "dimmer". I hooked it up to the dimmer wire for the radio and it works great. Hopefully the JBL harness has one, too.

I picked up this tonight and ordered the Metra TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness and Schoche dash unit from Amazon. Should be here on Friday. I'll install and then report back. This unit is usually $349, but Best Buy has it n sale right now for $229. The JVC brand makes me a little nervous, but it seems like a solid unit with good consumer reviews. However, if it sounds like poop I'll be bummed.

It was a tough choice between the 2 DIN screen and the stealth install of something that will just give me BT streaming access. That's what I was happy with in my Jeep and it would surely be cheaper. But I'll put this baby in and try it out. If it feels like overkill I can pull the Pioneer from the Jeep and stealth install that.

I hope everything is going good, I am trying to put my AVH-X5500BHS into my Prius. Had it working perfectly in my now dead Acura TL. I have the JVC system in my Prius too. I might be doing the installation on Tuesday December 31st 2013.

I love my Pioneer and am missing it dearly on every trip I have taken with the Prius. Can't wait to have it back in my car.
