I'm looking to install an after-market back-up camera to a Prius Model 3, 2011. Recommedations? How difficult to install.

All for $42; what a deal! I notice you put the view screen on your dashboard covering your radio, etc. Do you just put that there when needed; thus giving you access to the buttons most of the time?

(View screen) are you talking about the guide lines in the screen?

No, the monitor that shows the image. I don't have a monitor built in. Does the camera connect wirelessly to a monitor that you purchased or is this your nav screen?

The camera kit only comes with the camera and a transmitter that connects to the navigation monitor. The monitor you see in my picture is an Alpine 8" indash navigation system.

The guide lines, are they fixed straight or do they bend when you turn the steering wheel?

Oh, OK. Don't have a nav system monitor. I was hoping that I could get a wireless camera that would come with a monitor that I could install, or just use when needed. Guess that's not an option?

you can connect it to any monitor as long as it has an RCA or video input.

This is how I did mine. Less than $40 tops. All from eBay. I put the monitor in the console tray angled up. Works for me!

    Hi Fore,

Thanks for posting. Please post some pictures of your monitor mount and links to the product supplier.

    Thanks.

It really isn’t that hard. Yes, you tap into the back tail light. Just do a search for how to install backup camera on Prius Chat and follow their directions. (That’s really the only hard part, but it beats hardwiring all the way to the front)

I made sure the remote antenna was place just behind one of the two plastic little doors that pop out of the back plastic rear panel door. Just in case I needed it exposed for better wireless reception to the front wireless receiver. All the components are on Ebay just search one by one and buy from a reputable person with at least 98% rating or better. The monitor up front is powered by the cigarette lighter; just make sure you buy a cigarette plug-in with the same power requirements as the monitor. You may have one lying around the house from past cell phones. Yes, you’ll need to splice into it to make it work.

I failed to mention one thing you’ll need to buy a spilt cigarette lighter adapter to plug-in both the front wireless receiver and the monitor. This obviously can be done different ways by tapping into different power sources but I didn’t want all the hassle of doing that. This is for backing up only, so if I need my cigarette lighter for other things I just unplug the whole backup system to do that.

Good luck if you decide to give it a try. Like I said it works for me!

Im confused about the camera Dawitt bought.... I want to buy one for my project and have no problem running wires..... but what is wireless about it? Im not sure how or why its "wireless" any help is appreciated. Im getting ready to do a back up cam in the rearview mirror mod. I like this camera because it seems to fit the camera area on the Prius without issue...plus in my book. Thanks for any help
