Battery Warranty, 150k vs 100k

    I purchased my 2004 Prius in California, but it no longer resides there. Anyone know if I still have the benefit of the 150k, 10 year battery warranty? I would assume so, but I'm getting a bit antsy because my Prius is sitting at 144k now and I've seen some signs of reduced charge.

    You do not. The car must have been continuously licensed and operated in California or another state that adopted California emissions control regulations.

    Got it, thanks. Out of curiosity, do you have any idea of what the minimum requirement would be to lose the better warranty? Like...if you kept California registration, but drove the car out of state for almost a year and came back to California in the end, would the prolonged out of state use matter, or just the continuous California registration?

    On the plus side, now I have nothing to be peeved about if the battery dies at 150,001!

    As I read Toyota's warranty, your car is where it is registered. One gotcha, the states adopted CARB rules on different dates, so it is possible to buy a car in one CARB state, and move to a state which is now a CARB state, but because it wasn't when the car was new, you lose the longer warranty.

    Well, if you reveal that the car was operated in a non-CARB state for an extended period, then you might have trouble enforcing the CARB warranty. That probably fits into the category of "too much information".
