oil cartridge falling apart?

    I would imagine the Wix filter is sealed the same way.

    The so called "glue" on the end is more like a thermo plastic elastomer.

    I talked to a high level mechanic yesterday about my habit of using the wrong oil in my prius. He said too thick oil would make the vvti system chatter and wear my timing chain and oil pump more quickly. I dumped the oil and refilled with 0-20w. He said that if 5-20w and other oils were ok to use the writing on the oil cap would say "any oil" not " 0-20w" .

    More and more vehicles are going over to 0W-20. Many of the new GM are.

    I do not know. I've used 0W20 consistently, but doesn't the oil spec vary around the world. Australia for instance, I think their Owners Manual recommends a wider range of oil weights.

    I suspect the main reason for 0W20 is to improve mpg, get them a better rating.
