Also driving in power mode does not necessarily mean saving or using more fuel. It's about keeping up with surrounding traffic and not pissing off other drivers for driving too slow.
Just to remind you guys that this thread is not about driving in power vs driving in eco mode. This thread is about modifications on how to get the car into power mode when you first power up the Prius. AFAIK, my method is the only way. There's no other known way to do this, not scangauge, not even Techstream. Also this mod is strictly informational. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. No one is forcing you to do this mod. However, it is here when you need it.
Some of you mentioned that the right foot controls how fast the Prius accelerates to desire speed and not some silly button. While this is true, however from a psychological stand point, in ECO mode, you'd have to depress the gas pedal as far down as 2/3 way to achieve the same acceleration as in power mode at 1/3 down. This is something your right foot won't do at every stop light. Driving a Prius will change your right foot behavior. Subconsciously your brain tells you to accelerate slowly to save gas by not pressing down the gas pedal too far thus your right foot won't press the gas pedal any farther than 1/2 way.

I would like to move POWER MODE button to somewhere closer, such as steering wheel, that will be great if I need more quickly power response especially passing front car. In the thread I learned about the power mode switch circuit, next I will find a place (upper of end-call button?) for it, anyone shared?

Does Power mode really give better mileage? For me, it certainly makes the car more fun to drive and zippier, but it's difficult to believe it would be at all beneficial to mileage.

I get a bit better mpg's running PWR mode all the time. I can see it in the instant & average mpg figures on my ScanGauge II. I do not drive the car any different when running that mode. It is just easier for me to obtain higher mpg numbers while watching my SG II verses running the other modes which cause me to over react with the Go pedal and get lower mpg numbers. Some people call bullshit, but I know what works with my car and my right foot. Give it a try for a while. It is way easier to see the results if you run a ScanGauge or something that tells you instant mpg's and has resetable averages.

For me, there's a street on the way to and from my home that has 35 mph speed limit. I find that I can drive almost exclusively on the battery on this street, for miles. I usually set it to ECO mode here so it's easier to keep the pedal under or right around the point where the ICE kicks in. When doing this, I can get over 50 MPG (or higher) in that section of the trip.

I would think in Power mode, it would be much more difficult to do this.

You can add a button anywhere in your to activate the PWR mode. You don't have to "move" the PWR button elsewhere. Just follow the mod to the button circuit on post #2. Instead of the the relay circuit, wire the 2 wires from the modded PWR button to any momentary push button. The momentary push button will activate PWR mode. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I was try to add a button on steering wheel but don't know how to wire to PWR button across steering wheel. This could be hardest step to finish.

    Guys,

It's all in your right foot.

    It's a perception thing.
    Are you that easily fooled?
Do you set your car clock 5 minutes fast because that makes you arrive early?

Maybe my ScanGauge II is perception also. Better contact their engineers and tell them that [IMG]

we know its in right foot......but we like messing with ours cars
some like the feel of power button effect better ...and so drive there cars better.
some like eco feel and so drive better.
formula 1 drivers sit different in cars...example alonso had his ferrari seat position changed....why? he felt better ...and so drives better...
similiar for those interested in this thread..power mode feels better

cproaudio - Thanks for the research for the override. I used two 555 timers to get it to work. Power mode override 2 stage delay.png c07983.jpg

Nice work. I also have a PWR mod based on 2 555 timer. My output A is adjustable from 0 to 5 seconds. Output B is just under 1 second. Do you have wiring information for the v?

Thanks. Not too pretty but it works. Open center console lid. Pry and lift at back of black cup holder with the 3 buttons. Disconnect harness and remove bottom. Solder to points shown and drill one hole. Route the 2 wires as shown. Replace bottom. Replace cup holder. IGN is fuse 28 at driver's side fuse block. The outside is +12v and the other side is fused. Not having a schematic to find the IGN wire nor could find this on a Google search, this is next best thing.

The one thing I have noticed on all forums is that people tend to overkill by using heavy duty wire. I used 26 gauge solid and soldered to the board, then extended with stranded 24 AWG to the relay placed behind and to the left of the USB port. Most everything is 24AWG.

If I didn't already have that DPDT relay (25 years old at $3), I would buy a solid state relay.

And a casualty tonight - while returning the fuse puller, I dropped it. Dismantled the undercovers, but did not find it. Oh well.

Sorry, I couldn't get the timing right so I have abandoned the project.

Can I buy something in the Shop to help with this for my 2012 Prius, or do I need to follow every step that you have outlined?

    Thank you,
    Joe
