I'm probably the only person on the planet without a smartphone, so is there some other device this app can run on ?

Any Android tablet with Bluetooth should also work.

    Thanks for posting these, crabbyman!
The settings available on any particular car are determined dynamically by the app based on what the car supports. There are a total of 100+ settings, but a Gen3 Prius usually supports around 30-40 of them. The next version of Carista will add about 20-30 more settings in total (not necessarily specific to the Prius). Note that even within the Gen3 Prii, there are differences in the available customizations, depending on the year, specific model, and factory-installed options.

I have purposefully not added the seatbelt chime setting because I'm not sure yet whether there are any legal requirements about that... so I don't want to be liable or break any laws. Need to consult with a lawyer. Plus, the reminder chime seems like a good thing to have, given that seatbelts are indeed proven to be effective in cases of accidents.

I don't have a smart phone either..those were taken from my Nexus 7 (2012). So it doesn't even have to be an expensive tablet or setup to use it.

Tablet - $99 (didn't buy it for this reason but the app adds to the usefulness)
OBD II BT Dongle - $12
    Carista - $10

For reference...I have a 2014 Prius II Base model.

I know this a Prius board but for those who may own other cars, it only had a handful of changes for my Rav4 but it still had the one I wanted changed.

I know the seat belt chime is a touchy subject. I would think you would get into legal ramifications as it is a safety measure. If I were you I would leave it be.

On that note, I'd like to be able to adjust the MPG readout, mine's about 2.5 MPG higher than actual .

It's free to see what settings are available for your car in Carista. So just try it :) You only have to pay if you want to change something. That said, I don't remember seeing anything about adjusting the speedo. There might be something related to MPG in the next version, but I'm not sure yet.

We're in the process of adding more settings. Basically, if a dealer can do it, Carista should be able to do it as well (for supported models only - we don't support the older communication protocol used by Toyotas until 2006, and for some models even later - e.g. the Gen2 Prius).

Btw, if you guys also have other 2006+ Toyota/Lexus/Scion cars besides the Prius, it would be of huge help if you could send me a "debug report" that contains info about supported settings. To do that, open the slide-out menu from the left and tap on the "Version 2.0" label 5 times. This will open a new screen that collects info and then guides you to sending a report. Please include the exact year and model of the car. Thanks!

I downloaded it and never used it. I used the other method (free) to kill the seat belt and reverse beeping. What does it do outside the other method (free) for disabling the beeping?

The MPG thing would be a god send. That is a pet peeve of mine..I know it is just for approixmating, but if it was within 1 MPG I could live with it. Right now it is closer to 4-5 MPG off.

Will this be a simple update of the app we have or will we have to buy the new version?

It will be a free update and if you've purchased the Pro Package, you won't have to pay anything extra.
