2014 here, didn't have to dremel nething/
just bolted them in////

 

Does your hood close flush or do they stick out from the fenders?

 

flush as flush can be/
maybe you mounted them on the wrong spots?

I just noticed your car has the same plastics as mine. In the video (I'm still uploading), I mentioned that maybe older models didn't have these, but I see now in your pic that yours has it, too. Is the top bracket mounted on the top bolt or the bottom bolt?

 

Using Burna J's image, I've marked in red the parts I had to Dremel out.

 

The only thing I can think of is that I bought an older set of hood dampers for older models (gen 2 perhaps?) and the brackets aren't meant for the gen 3 without some modifications. When I asked in another thread (and I linked to the item on eBay), I was told they were the right ones for my 2014. I guess that person didn't look at the actual eBay listing and just assumed.

I wouldn't start dremeling plastic away; take it off, contact the seller & exchange it for the correct one.

The more I look at Burna J's pic, the more I'm beginning to think I installed it all wrong. Is there anywhere I can buy the plastic parts I trimmed off? Ugh. I hate that I Dremeled it. I know it's my own damn fault. I wish I had internet access where I was when I installed these, but I didn't.

 

just cut them off clean & make it look like it came from the factory like that. probably not worth to spend a little fortune on some plastic pieces.
take everything off & start from scratch again.
there are worse things in life than screwing up something like this...... ;-)

When I installed mine, I used this. No internet access required.

That's how I first installed it, following those instructions. The hood wouldn't close. Also, in the diagram, it shows L but it's installed on the right hand side. Doesn't L stand for left? If you look at the lower bracket, the ball is towards the bottom. I tried that and it wouldn't fit. I even tried flipping it over and putting it on the other side. My brackets are clearly labeled L and R, so I went with that. The instructions at that point was useless. I had to use trial and error. I would have loved to have internet access to double check here in these forums but I had no access. Also, the way yours is installed wouldn't work in my car. I just tried right now. Everything in the kit looks the same as yours except for the color of the dampers. But you used the upper part of the hood's bolt to mount the bracket and the bottom bracket's ball is at the bottom. Weird.

I just checked every possible combinations to install these just now and the way I did it is the only way. I'm 100% certain now I didn't make a mistake and the Dremeling I did was absolutely necessary.

I'm pretty sure I bought the gen 2 hood dampers and that's why this happened. Maybe the gen 3 version are shorter or the brackets/mount are different? I was too trusting when a forum member assured me these would work on my 2014... and no one else was responding so I went with it. Lesson learned.

Sean (feels weird calling someone with the same name as me --lol), thanks but I don't think I would want to change that plastic part anymore. It turns out it's the ENTIRE thing that runs all the way across. It's not just one small piece. I also learned that the Dremel-ing was necessary after all. Had I gotten the hood dampers for the 3rd gen, I wouldn't have had to do this. Oh well.

I meticulously cleaned up the parts I Dremel'd, as you can see in the video, with a box cutter. So that no longer looks as sloppy as before, like a dog chewed it up. The hood dampers perform really well, too. I'm glad I got the mod, despite the mix up. I hope other 3rd gen owners learn from this, at least.
