Anyone figured out what this little cover is for?
The dealer couldn't tell me and it doesn't appear to be referenced in the manual.

I have seen that in many different cars (of all Makes) that have automatic climate control, I have always assumed that it is a temperature sensor.

I believe it is the speaker to the door/key signal.

Should be a small tube that runs up to a sensor that detects ambient air for the auto HVAC function....

    Hi Joss,

    Room Temperature Sensor.jpg

The room temperature sensor (cooler thermistor) detects the cabin temperature based on changes in the resistance of its built-in thermistor and sends a signal to the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

It's for the HVAC. You only find that vent on vehicles with auto climate control.

It is the in-car temp sensor for the HVAC system. There is a 2 wire connector and an aspirator tube connected to the back of the sensor.
Sorry, I only have a LHD view.

Wow, thank you all for your answers - very helpful.

Funny thing, when I asked the dealer, and he said it was the microphone for the bluetooth connection.
I pointed to the grill on the roof which did that and he said, "no, that one blows a burst of cool air every now and then to keep you awake on long trips".
    Silly dealer.

When I went to buy my gen3 Prius, I was already knowledgeable in all of the features. I need up going to 3 different dealers & put the sales man through the all of t he technical questions. The 1st 2 dealers I ended up asking for the sales manager. I explained to him that it was pretty sad to hear his salesman come up with some really outrageous answers & because of his lack of knowledge about the features of a Prius they were losing the sale.
