I believe I get about ~6 mpg loss, just on a gut feeling. Has anybody ran their own numbers? I noticed the AC pulls ~1850 watts full power with torque, but I don't know how accurate that is.

    EDIT : ~1850 watts, not 1275 watts

The A/C will pull a lot more than that - the A/C consumption power PID scale is up to 12750 watts. Depending on the ambient temperature, the climate air temperature setting can be raised until the A/C cycles between 250-300 watts and off; there is no observable effect on mpg at this level.

My guess is more like 3-4 but it depends a lot on what temp you have it set AT, how hot it is outside, using recirc or not AND whether or not you have "econ" activated.

I found pretty much the same thing on the regular Prius and the PIP (and now with my Volt too) the AC has minimal effect on mpg.
Use it freely, and it's better to keep battery cool too...

The 12,750 watts seems high. The Gen3 A/C is rated at 5000 watts.

I think there is a typo somewhere.
12 KW is enough to power my whole house......with pretty much everything going full blast. :)

We've got a pretty regular run to downtown. It's been a while, but I can recall doing it with the A/C on, and noticing with the ScanGauge liters/100 km for that trip the number was staying stubbornly high (bad). Just seat-of-pant: without A/C we might be down to 4.2 (liters/100km), with A/C it was more like 4.5~4.6.

Also, if it's shortish trips, and not crazy hot, I prefer to just leave the A/C off, roll down the windows, roll them back up halfway in the highway portions.

Agreed, but the NHP10 and ZVW30 spreadsheets both show 17.098 HP / 12750 Watts. Perhaps Vincent1449p will see this and comment...

I followed the same min. & max. values in Repair Manual:

    upload_2014-6-15_12-31-10.png

It show the mathematical min. & max. values and the actual operating ranges are shown in the remarks column, i.e. 1 ~ 5000W.

Am I missing something here ?
How is that a clarification ?
    12,750 W is quite different than 5,000 W

    It's a clarification for me.
