I guess since you put it so easily that way and they had reworded it.....
I am just happy to have some peace of mind that my car will last me a little longer until I start my new job hopefully and relieve some stress during my training period, so I won't have to worry about transportation to and from.... Thanks for the help everyone.... sorry I couldn't DIY ... it just didn't think I would be able to do it properly.

I gave you the short version, but it probably was more complicated. Glad you're on your way to some more trouble free driving

I live in Fresno CA and they don't require any smog instection here in CA .We are one of the most strict counties in the US. Im shocked they would do an emission test anywhere else.

This is the inverter coolant pump I presume.
I thought it could be replaced under warranty.

Well think about it.. It would require either the legislative body of the state or some regulatory board to specifically take action to grant an exception to a certain type of vehicle when the old rules state "all vehicles...." (As they do here in Texas). Honestly I'm surprised CA would grant an exception to a vehicle that is perfectly capable of excessively polluting the skies by having a catalytic converter, mass airflow sensor, o2 sensor, gas cap or anything else related to emissions fail. Ok after doing some reading it seems the exemption was added in CA not because they think the cars cannot pollute, but because the emissions testing methods used are not compatible with the no-engine idle behavior of the prius. So I'm guessing CA requires a probe in the tailpipe method? I've seen a few mentions that CA will drop the exemption in 2015 when testing methods are modified (I don't see why they don't simply use the OBD2 method).

Easily solved by putting the Prius in diagnostic mode, but don't tell the regulatory bodies.

You're not suppose to drive in this mode. The test requires the wheels to move

The reason for wheels to move or why you're not suppose to drive in that mode?

I don't know the reason, I think I'll find out.

The reason the front wheels have to spin is because CA uses a dynamometer emissions test.

The reason you are not supposed to drive the car when in maintenance mode is because in that mode the wheel slip control is deactivated; hence it is possible to damage MG2 if the wheels spin excessively.

FYI...my 2005 showed code P1121 yesterday after I let the car idle quite a while while I adjusted the HID headlights that the dealer really screwed up. Since I was out in a school parking lot with a flashlight and a wrench, took me a while since one light was searching for lost birds and the other was looking for snakes....lol. Long story short, plugged in my OBD II from Harbor Freight and saw the code. Looked up the bad news and read lots of info on Priuschat. Thought I would take a guess that it might have something to do that I had it idling for probably 45 minutes (and my engine runs more than what I think is normal) so I pulled my negative battery terminal and erased the code in the car after erasing the one on the OBD II. Waited a min, connected it and prayed. No Check Engine Light or Code. Ran 9 hours of errands today to 15 places in 85 degree temps, and (knock on my head as wood) no light or code.

Just thought this might help for anyone in higher temp areas that might have been idling a long time or totally stop and go traffic and then get the light and code. Not saying yours may not come back, but would sure be nice to be able to rule out a false positive, which is what I think I had from the car just overheating from just sitting and idling for so long....also with forgetting to turn the air conditioner off also....oops. Oh well, hope it helps someone.
