Truck...let me know how the ktp-445u works out as I was just looking at those. If I am not looking to blast the music, do you think the new speakers are enough? The factory speakers just seem so boomy and muddled.

Why did you switch from the Pioneer tot he dXi350? Was it worth it?

The polks were 91gb efficient, while the pioneers were 88db efficient.
I put the pioneers in my 2002 camry, so they didn't go to waste.
The pioneers are getting hard to come by. I am a big fan of efficiency.
The polks even come with 'blocking caps', which is a nice touch.

Thanks for the response. I actually can't find anyplace that sells the dX350's but everyone is selling the Pioneer. They must have started manufacturing it. What I don't get is why so few people talk about upgrading with component sets or dropping in a tweeter. This unit appears to literally drop into the existing opening.
Is everyone trying to save the install cost or is there another reason?

Trying to understand the pro vs cons of various suggestions and get suggestions. I have already read various Priuschat install posts. I am not looking for "hi-end" sound, but just want to clean up the boominess.

    1) Install the Infinity Reference 9632CF w/ Pioneer 3.5 Dash
    2) Install the Infinity Reference 9632CF w/ 1" Tweeter such as the Infinity Reference 1031t

    Also:
Any other suggestion for easy to install/fits factory grill 3.5 dash speakers? I looked everywhere and the Polk's suggested are out of production.
Any other ideas for a budget install. The local shops here keep trying to see me on amps and $1000 upgrades.
Has anyone installed the Sound Ordanance self-powered subwoofer?

I wouldn't read too much into efficiency ratings. There's a couple of standards and a fair bit of marketing spin.

I'd suggest hunting for something from Tangband, HiVi, Fostek, Scanspeak, Audible Physics, Vifa.

Do you remember which Polk you used, how it fit, and how did you like the sound?

So this seems to be the best bang for the buck. How do you guys think this would sound if you added line out convertors and then a 10" sub @ like 200 watts rms?

Great thread, i got some ideas from here and was wondering with the folks with the infinity 6x9 in the doors, would you add a dedicated powered sub. i was looking at the Kenwood KCS-SW11 which would fit under to seat to fill inthe low end.

I want to keep the factory look and don't want to add big subs and amps. I already have a pretty sweet system in my Sequoia, Pioneer AVIC HU, JL Audio W6 12" and HD1000/5 with Focal Utopia components and was tempted to moved them over.

Just keeping light and simple for my new commuter.

Spooled...have you considered the Sound Ordinance from Crutchfied? They have an under the sea unit that fills in the bass without losing any space in the car.

Installed 2 Kenwood KSC-SW11 one under each seat. Bass is just right for me and it does not take up any trunk space. I forget the subs are even there.
Good set of subs for the price. All wirings are included.

    Thanks frankb and xterra

For the subs. Did you run a line level converter or use what was on the kenwood. Also what did you tap to get to remote on? How do you control the bass control running two of those or do you eve bother with it.

You get a remote to control the bass control. A shop installed it for me and no line level converter, just used what was in the kenwood. Not sure but I think the installer tapped into the 12 volt to get to remote on. Here's a you tube video I found with the exact Kenwood install, check it out:

    Thanks Xterra!

Hey Primal_G. Not sure on the kicker fit but you can probably dremel out enough plastic in the oem bracket to get it to work. There was a few more mm for the infinity 6x9. I'll post some pics after my install.

I have one door done with peel and stick to dampen the road noise and control the resonance. Hard to tell on road noise b/c only one door is done but the sound from the infinity is 10x better on the mids and highs. Bass is about the same output as oem. maybe a little more punchy and accurate. I'm sure it's not getting what it truly needs in terms of wattage to make it shine however. No worries I'm planning on a separate sub anyway.

After driving my SUV again today I realized I really miss my 12"JL audio w6 :-(. But Since I have an extra one and an old trusty JL audio 500/1 mono block amp to boot I'm going to try out first since I need to run wires for power and remote anyways. . Subs in hatchbacks always sound sooo good.
