    Press the DISPLAY button, then:
    1. see whether the on-screen brightness control is at minimum
    2. if there is an on-screen DISPLAY ON button, toggle it so that it reads DISPLAY OFF.

To prevent unintended commands clean the MFD only with the car OFF.

WHAT WAS THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN YOU QUOTED TO BE ABLE TO GET THE REPAIR FOR FREE? I'M EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM IN MY 07 PRIUS (BLANK SCREEN BUT OCCASIONALLY IT'LL FLICKER AND SEEM TO WANT TO COME BACK TO LIFE, BUT MAX FOR MAYBE 2 MINUTES) AND AM STUCK WITH EITHER HAVING THE DEALER DO IT (THEY QUOTED $7K TO DO A NEW REPLACEMENT, $1,100 IF YOU SEND YOUR EXISTING MFD BACK) OR BUYING A REFURBISHED ONE AND HAVING THEM INSTALL-NOT EVEN SURE THAT WOULD FIX IT. I'D LOVE TO BE ABLE TO REFERENCE THE RECALL TO DO IT FOR FREE. THANKS FOR THE HELP IN ADVANCE!

The MFD and the "Combination Meter" are two different units. The MFD is the large, almost square, touchscreen that provides access to many Prius functions (and is prone to problems like yours). The extended warranty is on the combination meter (which also is prone to problems). If you are having MFD problems call Steve at Prius hybrids sales and service Scottsburg Indiana who repairs them in southern Indiana.

. I remember people replacing these screens themselves, with refurbished or new. in fact the leading tech expert looked at his and found a open solder joint. At the very least, reboot, that is disconnect the 12v neg lead for a few secoonds and then reconnect. Your 12 V is good? The easiest way to get the 12 V checked, is just take it to a Battery shop, like Batteries Plus. They have good testers.

My screen went dark too! I can work the audio and air conditioning using steering wheel buttons but can't get stereo to change to another CD to play. I have to eject them all and load one at a time to listen to. Thought it was a fuse but nope. Am I doomed?
    Thanks!
