    Your car is not even in Ready mode, of course it won't move. Check the 12v battery first.

    Well you have the check engine icon illuminated.
    Why? I don't know.
    But it may clearly be time to tow for service.

    What do you mean?..I'm doing the same things I've been doing for the past 3 years

    I took it in last year for it to have a full checkup and at that time the engine sign was on but they didn't make any issue about it.

    Cars need a battery to start it......if it dies, it won't start. You've been a member on this forum since 2013 and this topic of replacing 12v batteries before they die comes up every single day. You should just go and buy another battery. At the dealer service dept, it'll run you about $300. DIY will be around $100 less.

    So you're saying that signal that just came up today is the 12v batteries?

    If I had to guess, that would be my guess. To know for certain, you need to read the car's DTC codes with a proper scanner.

    Maybe jump starting the battery might indicate that too, right?

    Yes it should be able to get jump started. But just make sure you don't cross the positive an negative terminals. Make certain they are connected properly or you could do more damage to other systems that costs thousands to repair.

    Spend $160 and 1 hour of your time and replace the 12v battery, if your 12v battery has never been replaced.

    the check engine can be set by a loose gas cap, but the car should still start.

    Poor service department that doesn't make an issue out of an illuminated check engine light. Did they reset it? Has it been off?

    Doesn't really change the parameters. You have engine warning light icons illuminated, your vehicle isn't going into ready mode. I'd start at a GOOD service department.

    Engine warning lights illuminated:=Bad
    Prius "Ready" light NOT illuminated:=Bad

    Also, if jump starting from another car, don't start that other car while it is connected to the Prius. Just leave its engine off until they are disconnected.

    Jumpstarting errors have led to high four-figure repair bills. If you are uncertain or uncomfortable with doing it, then a tow to a shop is far cheaper.

    It may or may not be a 12v battery but when a car doesn't start, the 12v is the first suspect.

    Check the voltage on your MFD screen. While is car is "on" hold and press "display" button on the MFD screen. Then turn your headlights on and off 3 times. That will bring you to a diagnostic screen. Goto somewhere that says display or voltage check. Then you get see how your battery is doing. It's not exact but it's better than nothing. If it reads under 11.5 volts, then surely it's a dead battery.

    I've hung around Prius Chat so long, that when my toilet backs up the first thing I do is check my 12 volt.

    I have done the required critical google research on this issue, and it does point to a low 12v bus power. Could be a bad battery, dead battery, bad ground in the trunk, loose connections, etc. Maybe a rodent got into the car and chewed some wiring (pretty common actually).

    In this case, I actually believe it's his 12v
