Unsuccessful 12v jump from pack or cables

If the battery is dead, how many amps does your charger provide for the system for everything to work, maybe you should disconnect the battery from the car before charging curious to know what you came up with.

 

What charger are you using, and where/how did you hook up? Hooking up a charger shouldn't be doing these things, maybe misconnection?

 

you might have a short in the old battery, creating resistance. try disconnecting it and hooking the jumper directly to the cables.

If your existing 12v battery has a serious problem (shorted cells), it will drain the available current from the "jumper" and prevent your Prius from starting up correctly.

There's no problem hooking up jumper cables directly at the battery post. Something is awry tho: every time you supply power all heck breaking loose. I'd suspect this'll continue, even if you dropped a new battery in.

 

A little bit different but related question: Did anyone ever try Chinese multi-purpose compact devices like "18000mAh (or 16800mAh) 12V 5V 19V Jump Starter Car Emergency Charger Battery Booster Power Bank" for starting Prius v? Or maybe what do you feel about it?
My car is Prius+ 2012/2013 with Spanish spec, which I think is basically very similar to Prius v save the number of seats and position of some parts.

 

I think about buying one but it's so small... Will it suffice?

 

It should......IF the marketing claims that it will start a conventional car, a hybrid should be no problem at all.

I personally think that with a car with an actual 12 V starter motor, the engine had better be in PERFECT running condition and able to start within the first few seconds of cranking. If it doesn't your are still screwed because there is no way that little thing will run the starter very long without going up in smoke itself.

 

you can start the car with 8 d cells, so that should be fine.

 

Read the reviews of a similar item sold in the US.

These have made the bulky old lead acid jump boxes obsolete.

 

Thanks! And what about the cable length in the picture? If the positive goes to the red at the far right, negative probably cannot reach to the bolt at the far left due to limited cable length so where (not so far) to connect it? Maybe someone has a scheme or picture and can clearly mark the best point?

The cables can be easily lengthened with 10 gauge wire and butt connector crimps.

I'm thing of prewiring the connector directly to le battery with the connector sticking out. That way, you won't have to fumble with it in an emergency.
