    Dear Prius Family,

For weeks, if not months now I have dreaded the rain. I can not seem to find where water is getting into my Prius. It collects behind the drivers seat under the carpet. At this point, i have taken out the center console, passenger seat and rear seat cushion thinking my only option was going to be to pull up the carpet and watch while my wife sprays the exterior with a hose hoping to spot the intrusion.

I have not pulled the carpet up just yet. I am crossing my fingers that someone here may have had a similar problem and some advice before I take the next steps which appear to be much more difficult than I bargained for.

Any advice whatsoever would be wonderful!

    Desperate first time visitor,

    Brian

Any idea if the water comes in while the car is parked? Or driving?

Looked at any drain holes where the water from the area beneath the windshield would have to drain off?

Looked at any drain holes in the doors?

Pour water above the drains and see if it is coming out the drains in a healthy stream equal to the input. If not you have an area of high suspicion.

oh boy, heard this one more than a few times before. have you checked the spare tyre area, 12 volt battery area and hybrid battery area? some have had leaks in the rear of the rain gutters, others, the hatch hinges. one guy even had the tube for his rear washer leaking into the car.

Thank you for the reply MIKE!

Water definitely comes in while the car is parked OR moving.
I have not looked at the drain holes specifically to make sure they are 'actually' draining.. Brilliant!
Do you know of a schematic or drawing that indicates where they all are located?

    Thank you Bisco!

At one time both of the areas you describe (Spare Tire & 12v Battery area) have collected water. I have removed rubber drain plugs from each area to ensure water no longer collects in these areas. I suppose i could do the same under the driver side back seat but I'm running out of "Band-Aids" :-?

Do you know of any photos or drawings that might help me trouble shoot the Rain Gutters you mention?

Thanks for the link! There are certainly enough ideas in that thread to keep me busy for a while. I just ran out to take a quick look for the cracks in the seems near the hatch. Yep! There are there and on both side. Seems so illogical that such small cracks could allow this much water to get into the cabin.

But first things first.. lets seal those cracks..

    Thanks much!
