700 mile club!!

    5th fill-up tonight.
    I could not believe my eyes. 60.62 mpg.
    That's with the manual computation.

    I drove 505 miles with 2 bars on the gas gauge.
    So, that would leave me with 3.57 gals left in the tank (11.9 gal tank)
    I filled her up with 8.33 gals.
    So, 3.57 X 60.62 = 216.41...
    and... 216.41 + 505 = 721 approx

    OR, I could just do: 60.62 X 11.9 = 721 miles.

    This is with 17" factory wheels, (not the forged wheels) and I believe I'm @ factory spec since I got the dealer to do the last oil change and I gave the technician a tip to make sure all fluids were topped off and tires inflated and rotated. I believe if you can afford it, it's always good to give the tech a tip that s/he does not expect, so that you'll get the best service s/he can give. I know there's no guarantee, but that's how I roll. I've not been let down yet!

    Filling her up... not the 1st click of the gas nozzle, that's with me sloooowly squeezing the pump to add gas to top her off.
    I know that's not a good idea, but I did it the last time to make sure that she was full and now I did it this time to make sure both times were as close to identical as possible.

    I drove the entire 505 miles with the ECO mode on.
    I kinda drove like I didn't steal it, gradual acceleration and deceleration, I did not pulse n glide, just kept her out of the power zone and where I could, just use battery when I run errands in the evenings.
    On hwy, I drove 70-75mph to work, 35 miles away, so I do encounter stop n go everyday.
    Terrain is quite flat, had a few 'cold' (50-60 degrees FL ) mornings.

    Awesome car.
    Toyota sure did their homework when they designed this car.
    Everybody complains about the quality of the interior but I believe it was engineered for the sole purpose of efficiency. You gotta give up something to get something in return.

    I do notice that the dash board does not heat up as much in comparison to other cars. That too I believe was engineered so that when you return to the car, there's not that much of a heat for the AC to cool off the interior, thus not working the car any more than it needs to.

    It ain't a hot rod, but one should not complain that it is not.
    Cause, if you drove it before you bought it, you should know exactly what you're buying.
    A fuel efficient appliance that gets you to where you want to go with the least amount of fuel usage.
    Did I say Awesome car?

    Wow!

    I drive 55-60 mph, grill blocked, tires at 44/42, p&g when I remember and yet still have not got over 400 miles per tank over my last few tanks before the light starts flashing.

    I also have stock 17" wheels, but am in PA, and it has been cold these last couple months.

    That warmer fl weather and flat as a level terrain must really be nice. Lol.

    Does it count to join the various mile clubs if I have the PiP? I'll probably go over 700 on this tank of fuel.

    Is the OP's car a PIP?

    Am wondering as a 700 mile tank on a reg prius with as he states 17" wheels I don't see how that's possible.

    Even if I did my commute at 35 mph on cc I don't think I could squeeze another 300 miles out of my last few tanks!!

    Maybe if you never hit the freeway and wherever you go there are no stop signs....?

    It sounds like you fill up well before necessary. The PiP has a smaller fuel tank, and I feel comfortable going another 100 miles after the fuel warning comes on. At the lowest I've run the tank out, there was still a gallon of fuel left, which is 10% of my fuel capacity.

    OP- Being capable of going 700 miles doesn't put you in the 700 mile club. Instead it puts you in the 60 MPG club. You have to actually go the distance to claim the fame.

    I have a 2015 persona and not a PIP, I was inquiring if the op owned a pip or a regular prius as I don't believe he stated what he ownes except for the fact that his prius has 17" wheels??

    60 mpg lifetime calculated is not a big deal for a pip, 60 mpg lifetime calculated is a big deal on a regular prius.

    I've gotten 50-55 mpg on previous fill-ups, but I did not use the ECO mode during those fill-ups.
    Granted, when driving around town and on the hwy, I see cars passing me left & right...I don't really care.
    On the hwy, I tend to drive 60-65 occasionally 70. When driving from a red light, I take my time to ramp up to the speed limit, I typically drive @ or below the speed limit & I try to not hold up traffic when I see a lot of cars behind me.
    At nights when the road is scant, I do drive 30-35 in a 40-45 mpg speed limit zone.
    I probably won't drive this conservative in the next tankful, since it was just a test.

    Conclusion: I believe the ECO mode definitely contributes to the higher mpg.
    I'll try to drive a little more aggressive in the ECO mode to see what kind of mpg I'll get and post it here after the next fill-up.

    For the question posed by: Blizzard Persona, No, I do not have a PiP!

    For the statement by Redpoint5, Yep, you're right, I did not get 700 miles to the tank, so, I cannot officially be admitted to that club.
    But, I know I could! That would leave me with 1/3 gal left in the tank, since by my calculation I could have gone 720.
    I don't think I'd want to risk that situation.

    Reminder: I'm in FL, the roads are pretty flat & @ sea-level & the temps don't go much lower than 60 deg F.

    Did a fill-up tonight.
    Went 543.4 miles and filled up with 9.52 gals, that works out to be 57.07 mpg.
    At $2.35 per gal, it costs about 4 cents per mile.

    I did run into 3 'cold' mornings by FL standards when the temp outside was low 50 degrees when doing my morning commute.
    Still using ECO mode but did not drive as conservative as before and did not drive like I had a raw egg between my right foot and the gas pedal.
    ( I made it a point to say 'raw' in case someone made the comment that it could've been a hard boiled egg LOL).
    So, I believe I can safely say the car can pretty much give me 55-58 mpg no problem.

    One very good thing about driving the Prius is that I really don't concern myself as to how far the destination is.
    Just whether I am motivated to put the time in to get there.
    That's an awesome feeling in comparison to before where I was getting 20-22 mpg in my other cars!
    Plus, I'm contributing to a greener planet.

    Somewhere on this forum there are actually official threads for a 700 mile club and even a 800 mile club (Gen3's only).

    I drive mine like a normal car. I levee it in normal mode. I do try to golf cart it in the neighborhood and take my foot off the gas coming up to a light a little further back. On the highway I do about 80, which kills the milage. I have 75,500 on my 2011 III and am averaging 48.03 since day one. As the car gets older I now average about 45 MPG. Still not bad. The milage went down when I put the Michelin Defenders on. But the ride is much better so I'm OK with that.

    I had thought that it was possible that my P5 was giving me false mileage. So, I checked the distance from my house to another house with my other car and both cars registered the SAME distance. One thing I can say again is that since I'm in SoFL, it's really FLAT & the weather is pretty warm. I ALWAYS drive in Eco mode. When on the hwy, and my speed is say 65, I ease off the pedal and hold it at the spot where I see the mileage meter show above 50+ mpg, more like 70+mpg. That way I know I'm covering alot of distance @ a high rate of speed with the least fuel consumption. I believe that this is what is contributing to my high mpg. I do drive late at nights sometime and most times I get up to 25-30-35 mph and once at a speed I wish to maintain, I back off the pedal, again where the mpg indicator shoots up to 50+ mpg and to 100mpg. AND I do have 17" wheels....I have a P5.

    I did 651 miles "one time" during first year doing 60 mph with 70 degree clear air that gave me 61.9 mpg. I will never do that again though because I p*ssed off every trucker on the Interstate and was to nervous about running out of gas...not good in a Prius. Lifetime mpg is is somewhere around 46, but I don't keep those records anymore. It's always good and I got over it.

    During Spring, Summer and Early Fall, I often "average" 500 mile tanks.

    However, my practice is to fill up once "cruising range" reaches zero, which conservatively leaves me with about a gallon and 1/2 left in my tank. (Personal Observation with my Prius Only--not saying your experience will be the same).

    So usually I'm filling up with about 450-460 miles on less than 10 gallons of gas.

    The funny thing, is you get use to it. Spoiled. Prius Whipped.

    I forget how good that actually is.

    I use to think I had done REALLY good if I filled up at 260-270 miles on 10 gallons with my Honda Fit. Now with my Prius, I don't even start looking at the gauge until I've passed 350 miles on a tank.

    I just recorded my best tank ever mpg wise.

    Finally got over 400 miles! Granted I bought my persona right before the winter started up and I'll admit one of my first tanks was a 500 mile tank but I pushed it well past the flashing final pip.

    The weather kinda broke around here these last couple weeks for the most part, except for a brief few inches of snow the other day. I still have my grill blocked and just checked my tire pressure which is 44/42.

    The first 110 miles of this tank was a downhill return trip from the pocono mts, then my normal commute @ 55 mph on cc.

    I managed 45.6mpg calculated.

    TX / CA / FL, you folks have it good as most others are playing with a winter handicap.

    Most my tanks this winter, driving like a granny at 55 mph have been between 39.1-39.9mpg calculated and all have been under 400 miles per tank cept for the above mentioned 500 mile tank that I pushed.

    FYI. My commute is 18.5 miles each way. Half highway. Half city.

    cproaudio: how in goods green earth did you manage 700 miles on a single tank with 17's? Did you set cc at 35 mph in the panhandle of TX as a test? I just can't fathom how you can achieve 300 more miles than most are averaging per tank on 17's. I would like to learn your ways. Thx.
