Would like to start the ICE in shop to check ICE

    I got this used Prius and never hear it run. Yes it will move ahead with a fully charged 12volt battery (slowly). I have never heard even a hint of the ICE trying to start. Why question is how can I force the ICE to turn over and start. I need to keep it in garage until ready for road. (No insurance for a dead car LOL).:(n)

    The engine should start a few seconds after pushing the "Power" button. What do you do to get it to move? Also, the 12v battery only provides energy to initially boot up the electronics and to run some of the accessories.

    The start button will light . And sometimes it will go into gear. And drive 30 ft then poop out and ready light goes out.
    It's running on main battery that is just about dead. Need to get ice to run to charge main battery.

    you can't. the main battery starts the ice, it's the old chicken and egg.

    you need to have it towed to a dealer who can request the special charger from toyota.

    alternatively, the grid charger sold in the prius shoppe may work, i'm not sure.

    I am not sure that the ICE starts with 200 volt. From what I've read it starts with 12 volt.
    Anyway I have enough main battery to drive the car about 30 or 40 feet. If the engine did require the Main Battery
    I should be ok there as well.

    I'm not sure where you have been reading, but it must be a bad source. The ICE most definitely is started by the HV (Traction) Battery spinning up MG1.
    Wrong! You are not ok there. If you can only drive the car 30 or 40 feet, then there is probably not enough reserve power to start the ICE (a fact to which you yourself attest when you say "It's running on main battery that is just about dead"). You will need the HV battery charged up from an external source before you can go forward.

    Everything is not ok. I'd stop trying to start it, have it checked out by Toyota competent mechanics. Continued start ups will completely toast the hybrid battery, if it's not there already.

    Could even be something like out of gas, but whatever the case, don't attempt to start it anymore, it'll just kill what's left of the battery charge.

    Yes your right It's a hoot and THANK YOU all I was wrong about the starting. I just read the tech manual.
    Ok so how to charge the main battery any ideas.?

    I dont plan or trying to start it until I get all the codes read and deal with them. I have no way of getting it to a Toyota dealership. I live in the prairies of Saskatchewan closest dealer about 160 miles away. So must recharge it myself. Any chargers for sale and what are they called??

    Reviving the hybrid battery is not just recharge. Imbalance in the cells must be addressed, some cells may be beyond recovery, assessment of the battery requires a not trivial investment in time and learning.

    What the typical owner will do is either get a new battery from dealership ( $3000~$4000), or a rebuild ($1500~$2500).

    If both those seem out of reach, sell for parts?

    that's why the toyota charger is regional, too expensive for every dealer to have on laying around.

    I did get this vehicle as a project and I will get it running normal. It may take a long time and massive reading but sooner or later.
    When I got this car it had been used right up to the time it was tapped in the rear, breaking the bumper and minor dent in rear of trunk. Now is there a fuel shut off valve like american vehicles use or anything that could have been triggered as a safety (feature).

    The Main will go ready at times but I have no more interest on spinning it uselessly. I have to figure if I have fuel flow and spark, then go from there.

    Do yourself a favor and get miniVCI, and a Windows laptop running a 32bit OS of XP or 7.

    I have ordered that very unit just waiting for the unit (have the software already)

    and even with the AC running there is no effort to spin up the ICE...So something is wrong I have to get those codes and start tracing it..

    the a/c is electric and does not need the engine.

    It said in the manual that been in park with key on hitting the AC will cause the ICE to start up

    You really need to sort out the HV battery before anything else, otherwise you could end up chasing your tail.

    Also, your OP mentioned the 12 V was charged, but check it is in good condition as well and remains fully charged while you start chasing down other faults.
