What is the part number/description of the replaced part and the labor hours charged? $860 is a really high repair price.

I think this assembly is for the three system main relays and the resistor used to apply DC high voltage to the inverter gracefully. When the Prius is first made READY, the resistor allows the inverter capacitors to charge up without absorbing excessive current. Once a short period has elapsed, the resistor is shorted out so that the inverter will receive full available power from the traction battery.

So the question is why 3G taxicabs need to have this replaced. My guess is that the assembly may overheat as it does carry substantial current and high voltage. This is not an issue that I've noticed with either Classic or 2G Prius.

 

$300. for part, and $560. for labor? how many hours is that?

 

I would think it's the same labor charge as replacing the hv battery

With the recall on software update done, toyota increases your inverter warrenty to 15 years unlimited miles. I recieved letter from toyota with a sticker which is supposed to go over warrenty on my warrenty card and it clearly says warrenty extended to 15 years unlimited miles.

 

By Toyota's description "excessive idling", and the mention of taxis, I'd expect they mean just leaving the car on, for hours at a time, maybe running AC too, situations where the engine periodically cycles on.
