The door entry, and engine start are two different systems within the fob. The door entry is a transmit and receive system "using the fob battery" as a power source along with a rolling code system. The same code not used twice.
The engine start system uses a transponder in the fob that returns a fixed code when interrogated and powered by the car it's self.

So I got the VCI cable and I installed Techstream. Here is my issue: This car is the SKS model (and it reports that two fobs have already been programmed to the car), but when I register a new key, it tells me to press the lock button from one of the keys. One of my issues that I mentioned above is that the one key I have only lets me turn the car on and off when I insert it into the slot, otherwise it doesn't even lock or unlock, the other key is practically useless, but both keys were built for the car. Any idea here? When I delete the keys, it asks for some passcode, which links me to some Toyota dealer page. Appreciate any help I can get here.
