Wow, if my battery lasted 8.5 years, the same one would be going back in!

What is more important than AGM VS flooded cell battery, is that the Prius should have a deep cycle type battery.
The deep cycle type can stand more deep discharge cycles and will last much longer than a starting battery in this application.

Reviving this thread a few years old. On the picture of the AC Delco battery, it shows model # S40B20R but someone else mentioned model # S40B20L. Is it interchangeable? Secondly, what does "R/H" stand for in the description "R/H vent hole" on the picture of the installation?

    Thanks.

The difference is in the position of the battery terminals. The "R" stands for negative terminal on the right with the terminals closest to you.
This is the correct layout for the Prius from 2004 on-wards. The Prius up to 2003 used the battery with the opposite "L" configuration.

I think the Prius uses the left hand vent tube, but many batteries have a connector at both ends.

S46B24R is the right size for 2004 to 2015 Prius, PHV, and v. I think the 2001 to 2003 and the c use other sizes.
