I wish I could read Japanese. Whats the fuel economy? I'm American and don't know what liters are... too lazy to break out a calculator. Looks like it's using the same engine as Gen 3? Maybe tweaked or same exact engine?? Maybe most, if not all, of the extra MPG comes from aero. Maybe software.

2016 Toyota Prius details leak in manual, returns 40 km/L

It also included the first decent view of one in white. Screen Shot 2015-09-23 at 1.34.37 PM.png

It looks nice. I'm starting to like the rear end more than the front now... at first it was the opposite. The front looks a bit unfinished/rushed.

December 2015 Debut. I'm guessing that will be the on sale date in Japan, as it's sure to be shown at the Tokyo Auto Show next month.

Someone translate this please! I want to know what the above picture says. Anything on torsional rigidity? Or amount of high strength steel used (percentage) vs outgoing model?

Not sure if the illustration is exaggerated or not but Gen4 center of gravity is much lower.

Can't be the same engine/system. Patents for the GIII expired so we should see very close MPG in the next 5 years.

And I thought Toyota said it's a brand new Synergy Drive System!

The article is quoted as stating the same engine code designation as the gen 3

I think patents from Gen1 expired which includes how PSD combine and split power.

60% increase in body rigidity over the previous gen Prius (red & pink dots). You can see the other cars listed. The Japanese names are as follows: 2005 at same body rigidity as previous gen Prius - Auris, 2005 at slightly higher rigidity than CT200h - Corolla and the one between GS and Golf Mark VII is the Camry.

The description below and the picture describes the technique of "Laser Screw Welding" or LSW that's employed in Lexus vehicles.

    Here's an English description:

Engineering innovations: laser screw welding - Lexus

Wow, more rigid than the latest Golf. Gen4 is a huge upgrade not only in fuel economy.

lots of interesting info there.. for instance white seats look great and much better design than anything in Prius (or most Toyotas) before.

Also 2.9cm more headroom at the back, and a lot more trunk space too. All LED lighting, automatic parking, best safety sense system, trunk 11cm lower to the ground before. Weight is 10kg more than before. A lot of points of the car are significantly lower to the ground, including seating position.

Still missing a lot of things too... like HUD details, AWD details, system output, etc, etc.

Over EPA of old model, I believe.
JC08 of the gen3 is roughly 40% better than the EPA.

To facilitate forward-facing sonar, Toyota has embedded a live dolphin in each Prius. The horn is a little squeakish, though.

All the cubbies that you thought were missing in the 4th-gen actually has been consolidated into a first-in-industry dedicated cetacean storage space for the ultimate in ecological awareness. No longer will you have to suffer the indignity of struggling with a loose porpoise in the cabin. Fully enclosed, your marine mammal will be kept moist and also be protected from both prying eyes and tempting thieves.

    Moist. So moist.
