These TRS HID bulbs look great. As I was driving I noticed my right headlight bulb was out. I pulled over and then did a test. I manually turned the headlights on and off about 5 times and that triggered the bulb to turn on. Could it be a bad igniter or ballast?

If the ballast/igniter was dead, it would be out completely. No amount of turning on and off would have brought it back ( mine actually had a pink cast before it died. Once it went, it was gone).

Did your car have HID's originally? If it acts as you say, I would think switch. Those small contacts inside the switch get carbon resistance build up. By turn it on and off five times cleaned the contacts and caused the electric energy to make it to the bulb.

It didn't have HID's originally. I installed them when I bought this TRS kit. What switch are you referring to?

    MotoG3 ?

    Here's what I installed originally.

The headlamp switch on the steering column. It may be pulling enough amperage that the contacts are heating up and causing an open circuit.

I have seen members on here install these successfully which is why I'm puzzled In my case should I try something else or just go back to oem?

That is up to you. If you like it, keep it. If you don't like the hassle, go back to OEM bulbs.

Any resolution that would solve this you think or have others reported the same?

I have not followed this on PC. My experience has shown me that while these bulbs are very bright, they also has a lot of heat. The heat causes warpage of the plug and finally the wiring contacts fall out of the plug (yeah, it is ugly).

It's your car, 4rpr15, do what you wish. Just hope nothing weird happens. Re-wiring headlamps is for the patient of heart, which I am not.

I may go the LED route. I need to research how that would work. I know those are not as bright, but the heat isn't as bad.

I am pretty sure that they also have a need for a ballast.

How long have the components been installed?

If it's a recent installation, check the ground point for the ballast, and all other connections, making sure they are nice and tight, all connections plugged in fully, etc.

If it's a component issue, swapping it from side to side will cause the failure to follow the swapped component. Start with the igniters, or bulbs first.

Lastly, it's probably not the switch in the stalk. The fact that only one side failed to light, and the other works fine, rules out the switch. Both lights would be out if it was the switch. Also, I'm positive that the full power used by the lighting system isn't switched at the headlight stalk switch, that's what relays are for. ;) That's what that clicking sound is when you turn on your headlights, it's a relay that is switching the power in the light circuit, the stalk switch is only switching a low power signal to the relay.

The weird part is that when I was testing it with the switch the right side went out first, then the left and at one point both of the lights went out.

Did you use the heavy duty dual relay HID harness that came with the kit? The symptoms sound like you got a harness with glitchy relays.

    I used the Canbus relay.

would something like this work out? How is this different than a lowbeam headlight hid kit for a newer model Prius? I would prefer led because my fog lights are also led. 9006 LED Headlight Kit | 9006 LED Upgrade

Those supposed plug n play LED lights aren't very good. You're much better off staying with the HID kit.

Use a relay from TRS. You don't need the canbus version. I had the same problem with OEM Denso with the G's headlights. Once I installed the relay, it worked great.

TRS recommended the Canbus relay for my setup originally. Now this happens...
