I have a 2013 Prius and the inverter coolant is at the "minimum" mark.

What type of fluid should be placed into the reservoir and concentration (is it 50%/50% or straight coolant).

    Thanks.

use super long life coolant from Toyota. It's a 50/50 mixture already.

The Owner's Manual spec's it, albeit buried away in the back pages. Download the pdf and you can then search it, easier.

FYI the coolant should be checked when the Ice is warmed up when it is at a higher point.

I have the same problem as you.

I was told to just keep an eye on it or add distilled water since it is only a couple of ounces.

The other suggestion was if I was a hot chick I can ask the Toyota dealer to just too it off.

I really don't want to buy a gallon and use a few ounces and just store the left over gallon for several years.

As you can see from the pic, someone marked it, but did nothing about it.

My 2010 manual says: "the power control unit level is satisfactory if it is between the "FULL" and "LOW" lines on the reservoir when the hybrid system is cold". It then goes on to advise "If the level is on or below the "L' line, add coolant up to the "F" line".

Is this advice consistent with my manual?

Hold down a second, you own a 2013 with a very low inverter coolant?
Keep an eye on it, if it is not because of temperature /level reading, something must be done under manufacturers warranty

FWIW, our build date was Aug/09. I recall when we bought it, in Nov/10, the levels were still at the full line. I purchased coolant (for top up) Apr/15, with 51K km's and at that time both levels have dropped to maybe 1/8" below low line.

Some dealers do this for free if you got to the service department -- most top off with oil changes. My dealer offers oil change specials a couple times a year.

We purchased it new....my wife drives the 2013 Prius (I drive a 2014 Prius).

The 2013 Prius has 63,000 miles on it (all trouble free miles....great vehicle).

I will keep an eye on that inverter coolant level....

    Everyone...thanks for your thoughts.

    New related question.....

For my 2014 Prius (while my 2013 is low), the coolant in the inverter reservoir is above the top "full" mark.

Will there be any issues for it to be above the top full mark? Probably not as long as it doesn't overflow? (and clearly I am not going to suck some out to refill my 2013).

How much above the full mark?

If it was a half inch or more, I think it'd be a capital idea, to transfer some to the other vehicle. Doubt it's enough though.

Yeah, it's too bad they won't sell a quart. It'd be good for owners, doing minor top-up. Good idea for an area with a Prius club?

Agree. Good for customer, but bad for Toyota's bottom line. Toyota obviously knows this.

Did Toyota sell Qt. size at one time in past? I ask because I vaguely recollect post from past quoting price for quart sized container; maybe it was for old Toyota LLC.

    No

Why not? A rubber squeeze bulb works well for that purpose.

For example, a bulb used for babies who have nasal congestion and don't know how to blow their noses... I've kept the one that we bought 26 years ago when our daughter was an infant, for automotive purposes like sucking brake fluid out of the reservoir as part of the process of replacing the fluid.

You can also pick up a large syringe sans point at a pharmacy, attach a tube extension on it.

This coolant meets Toyota specs at walmart online; Valvoline Asian Vehicle Formula Antifreeze 871668 was $8.38 a few days ago now $11.97.
    I'm new...says I can't post links yet.

You get what you pay for. I recommend the Toyota SLLC that is called for in the owners manual. To use any thing else is each individuals risk and choice.

North of the border into Canada they mix it 55% coolant, still a US gallon (3.7 something liters). I wonder what percent they sell in Alaska?

You guys are talking about two different coolant reservoirs, the inverter coolant and the engine/ice coolant.
