JustDidIt - Modding My 2007....The 2008 Touring died.

    These poke out just a bit more than I wanted. With a couple other people in the car on a road trip, there was some significant tire rub at 70-80/mph hitting those big dips in the road. And since I stuck with a 40 series tire to help fill out the wheel well, it raised the car an inch. Was thinking about lowering it back down that one inch, but not now. I'd be rubbing everywhere!

    I had the same issue when i had a set of 225/40R19s. Switching back to 215/35R19s fixed the rubbing issue. I always thought the Gen3 had more room in the wheel well but maybe not as much as i thought.

    Then again maybe the 35ET isn't helping. The wheels i was contemplating were 19x8 35ET... wonder if I'll have the same issue.

    Yeah the 35ET isn't helping. Tech that put them on said if I would have stuck with the 40ET like the OEM wheels I wouldn't have a problem. But ofcourse these didn't come in a 40ET. and I was liking the amount of concave look the 35ET created. Didn't want a flat face wheel. And I went with 225 tire width to have a little more meat on the tire to help protect the lip of the wheel. But, all that has made them poke just ever so slightly. The front have more poke than the rear. The rear actually sit flush with the fender. But with some weight in the car , def get some rubbing. Maybe rolling the fenders would help.

    Installed 'Strongarm' rear hatch shocks the other day after my old ones were failing. Not always staying up. 'don't you hate that...'

    You can find them for less than $20 on the 'A' word site.

    Old ones wouldn't hold the rear hatch up...let alone lift it like these do.
    I don't think these are specific to the Gen2 Prius - I had to rotate the head of the shock 180 degrees as it was facing the wrong way - other than that - straight bolt on.

    That's an awesome find! You're right, I don't think they are specifically for a GEN II, when I go to that 'A' site, it states that this will not fit my 2009 Prius, but of course it wouldn't, it says they're hood-lift-supports! I checked RockAuto Parts Catalog and the only real quality lift-supports were listed at $32.00 each! So yeah, I'm defiantly adding those StrongArm 4686 lift-supports to my "A-Zon" 'Prius Parts and Ideas' wish-list.

    Just remember - I had to rotate the head of the shock 180 degrees as it was facing the wrong way - other than that - Straight bolt on. Super StrongArm. :) Super cheap compared to OEM.... and stronger then oem replacments. PartsGeek had some other options - but i'm def happy with my purchase.

    Hahaha! Of course I will! :) FedEx is expected to deliver them to my house this coming Friday. As soon as they arrive I plan on taking pictures and getting them installed right away! I ordered SSR lugnuts from A-Zon and they've already arrived! So now I'm just waiting for the wheels. Is it Friday yet!?!

    They are definitely brighter than 60W I was using. I think because of the new reflector design, the lights appear brighter.

    Thanks! ya, i've seen that list. Issue is the less expensive light ones are no longer made. Anything in the <19lbs range is astronomical in price.

    Pretty much the 6061 and Centerline wheels are all discontinued...only used seem to appear once in a while. Motegi's trak lites don't come in 19" with a 5x100 bolt pattern. SSR's are just plain rare. Enkei have a couple options...but thats about it. Advan's are nice but >$650 ea and Volks are >$900 ea

    Its hard to find good lightweight rims that actually look good without costing >$500 per wheel...as they say - you have to pay to play...

    Haha.. TSW doesn't seem to think 19" wheels fit on the Gen2. :) They don't even let you look at all the wheels are your car...

    145 DIN hp from the electrically-boosted 1.5-litre petrol engine - Accelerating to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. Fuel economy at normal speeds virtually unaffected by performance potential

    Toyota Prius GT is a high-performance version of the new Toyota Prius that intends to show the most daring side of hybrid technology. This is a concept car and there are no current plans either to put it into production or to engage in motor sport activities. It has been developed to highlight the sheer versatility of hybrid technology which is not just about low emissions and environmental credentials. It can also be tuned to offer sparkling performance and pure driving pleasure.

    This will be the first hybrid vehicle ever to have taken part in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is a celebration of motorsports history.

    Throughout this weekend, Toyota Prius GT will be used as an official car by the event’s organisers. Furthermore, another unit will be on exhibition at the Toyota Booth, together with the Toyota TF104 F1 car and other Toyota cars participating on the Festival of Speed - the 1993 Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD, winner of that year’s world rally championship, the 1992 Toyota TS010 group C car and the Toyota 2000 GT from the American SCCA championship, prepared by Carroll Shelby.

    Hybrid on the fast track

    The Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain of the Toyota Prius GT has been specifically tuned to deliver sportscar performance. The standard Prius Atkinson-cycle petrol engine has been replaced by the 1.5-litre Yaris T Sport powerplant which provides better response and results in a power gain of 29%, from 77 DIN hp to 99 DIN hp.

    The electrical part of the hybrid system has also been uprated. The High Voltage Power Circuit now develops 550 V, a gain of 50 V compared to the street version. This makes it possible to install a more powerful electric motor, which now develops 82 DIN hp on its own - a power output similar to that of a conventional 1.4-litre petrol engine.

    To cope with the extra power, the battery has been upgraded to develop 34 kW or 46 DIN hp (a gain of 9 kW / 12 DIN hp) and the generator’s maximum speed has been boosted from 10,000 rpm to 12,000 rpm. Furthermore, the state-of-charge control has been tuned to provide more rapid race car response rather than to maximise outright range.

    The 1.5-litre engine, in conjunction with the electric motor (which can be compared to an electric supercharger), now returns 145 DIN hp, a figure that beats every other 1.5-litre diesel or petrol unit currently on the market. In addition, specific power comes close to 100 DIN hp per litre.

    Improved body and chassis

    To match the increased power output, the whole suspension system - shock absorbers, springs and stabilizer bars - has been uprated to provide sharper handling and improved grip. In addition, the hybrid battery has been positioned over the rear axle to provide near-perfect weight distribution that a conventional car would struggle to match.

    The addition of a front spoiler and side skirts generates extra downforce and provide a more aggressive look.
    For racing, the whole interior of the Prius has been stripped out to save weight and replaced by two sports seats, harness and a safety roll cage.

    As a result the total weight of the Prius GT is just 1,120 kg, 180 kg less than the production version.

    More power and less weight result in significant performance improvements, including 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 8.7 seconds.

    Surprisingly, when the Prius GT is driven at normal speeds fuel economy and emissions are virtually unchanged. This is because the effects of a more powerful petrol engine are counteracted by efficiency gains from the electric circuit and the overall weight reduction.
