Dashboard illuminated with too many warning lights

    Just a couple tweaks to the above...

    Personally, I prefer to do the charge first to 80 instead of 70, then the discharge. 30% isn't always attainable. The car will cut-off at 40% but sometimes a really weak block will cause it to drop dramatically lower almost instantaneously. You know the discharge is done when the ICE kicks on.

    Ok so I'm embarking on the grand journey of the hybrid battery work today. Got all the tools in hand. I'll post how it turns out.

    Btw. Yesterday I did take the blower out and its components and cleaned them. They were..disgusting!

    Here we go...

    I am curious as to how much of a deal you got on this vehicle from the auction sale. I wish you the best in your venture, but please be careful. This may cost you a lot more in the end.

    I only paid $1100 with a fully loaded package. Ran right off the lot. It just needs work. I've wanted this car for a long time and I hope everything goes well too. My uncle works for Toyota assembly line so Im going to do this under his guidance.

    Okay. Here's the update. Took everything out of the back and tested all the modules. Sure enough two were bad. #9 and #11. Also. I cleaned the gunk from the connections. And also used my air compressor to blow out tons of dog hair and dust from the battery and filters....and what do I find. Remnants of a dead bird!!!!

    Who finds a dead bird bad in there anyway? Oh yea.....me lmao.

    Also took time to put everything back properly, and guess what battery turns on but the engine doesn't turn over:(

    You need to reset the immobilizer

    Connect a trickle charger

    Turn key to ON

    30 minutes later remove charger then turn to Ready ICE should kick on

    I don't think the immobilizer ECU needs to be reset unless either the HV ECU or immobilizer ECU were replaced.

    In any event the OP should not expect the car to start unless the failed battery modules were replaced.

    They might also want to push the handle of the orange safety plug straight down.

    Ya i would double check the safety plug, then maybe dc and reconnect the 12v battery which should have been connected last. Also check voltage of 12v battery.

    The voltage of the 12 volt was fine when I checked it. I will check the service plug again and see if that's the issue. And I haven't figured out how to reset the immobilizer.

    So after my attempt with hybrid battery. It did not improve at all. Now that I'm working a lot more I wont get another chance to work on it and I'd hate to see it just sit there:( Was wondering if anybody knows someone who is willing to sell me a refurbished battery or new battery that I can get installed. I cannot afford the crazy prices the dealership wants to charge. I hate to say I gave up but circumstances are circumstances.

    Codes P3019 and P3021 are the important ones. They mean battery blocks 9 and 11 are reading low. A block is two battery modules. The count starts opposite the battery computer. One of the 17th or 18th module is bad. One of the 21st and 22nd modules is bad. Often but not always the bad modules can be found with just a volt meter. The voltage of bad modules can recover at rest to make them hard to spot.

    Did you replace any modules? With the count starting opposite the computer which modules?

    Have you read the codes again?

    Inserting the orange safety plug requires three distinct moves. First is to push the plug in. Second is to rotate the handle up. Third is to push the handle straight down. The third step closes a 12 volt circuit that lets the car know the plug is in place. Without this confirmation the main battery relays will not close and the car will not start. When attempting to start the car you should hear the relays close.

    The same codes are popping up. Checked connections and same thing happened. I am looking at getting a refurbished battery and having Toyota install it.

    Well boulder hybrids wanted too much for a reconditioned battery/installation. 1500. But I found a company out of Missouri that will travel to Colorado and drop in a used battery 2009 less than 50k miles, with a 1year warranty, and routine maintenance!!!!! Major score for only 995.00

    Usual scam. The guy called after I sent an email. He said they would come onTuesday. Should I be cautious? I checked their website and it seems legit. They also do auto sales.
