    Bob,
Have the coast down numbers been posted yet? Where do I find them for previous generations?

    Merged

One of the things that I noticed while looking at the Fueleconomy.gov raw data was that two 2016 Prius were tested. One was listed as Prius, the other as Prius Eco. But if you look further into the details, the battery type for each was listed. For Prius Eco, Li-Ion was listed. For Prius, NiMH was listed. The takeaway from that is that the Prius Two was the other one tested because only the Two has NiMH. So the 54/50/52 rating is for the Two and the 58/53/56 is for the Two Eco. The touring models I would expect would be lower than 54/50/52 due to the 17" tires.

Interesting to note that the test weight for the Prius was 3375, but only 3250 for the Prius Eco. The EPA gives a 125 lb advantage to the Eco, when the base weight difference is only 65 lb.

Wonder what the weight difference is compare to the Toyota website they have the curb weight ECO at 3010 and the Four Touring at 3080.

So in reference to the tires that come with the Eco, are they the special ones that require more PSI or has toyota been shipping the Eco's with regular 'ol Prius tires?

The special tires are / were a major sellin point and if they are not shipping them with those special tires well that would be disappointing..

I am thinking that has been put to rest. Tires on the Eco are the same as on the Two.

Wow, I did see something in the past saying some folks were not getting the special tires, but didn't realize they were dead in the water. I wonder why and if the Eco's will be getting them later on? Like I said major selling point and a disappointment if one was expecting such.

So same tires as the two (are they recommending extra PSI still???) only diff is no rear wiper, lighter Lithium batt, some solar resistant windshield (maybe?) and...

I am actually getting enticed by the Eco and the very impressive mpg's reported so I am trying to justify and understand. Thanks all :)

Don't forget no spare and (lower) uneven hatch floor. Could be plus or minus, but a factor.

Plus with the base two you save the $500 surcharge and that buys approx. 25+ tanks of gas at today's low gas rates which is anywhere from 13-20k miles of driving depending how good you can get at driving Eco! Tough choice..

Same tires, higher PSI in the Eco, 39/36.

From what I've read about the "special tyres", you don't want them! The car doesn't handle well with them and they don't do well in rain. From what I've read.

I wonder if they are not meeting the US tyre standards and that's why you aren't getting them.

They must meet standards. Isn't the Mirage using them?

I believe when it comes to the most fuel efficient tires the most fuel efficient, at least in the U.S., is the 195x65x15 Michelin Energy Saver AS.
65,000 mile tread life as well. On the 2nd set now with our 2010 Prius, and yes, they are more fuel efficient than factory Avid Yokohama and tread life is 65,000 or more, at least in my expeirence, with max sidewall pressure on all 4 tires @ 44 PSI, perfect even wear after over 65,000 miles on our 1st set. If there is a more fuel efficient tire available in the U.S. with 65,000 mile tread life lets hear it....

Just drove a Two and Two Eco back to back. Identical color even. The salesman let me check the PSI before the drive, 62 degrees outside sitting all night both cars not warm.Eco was 38 and 36 in front and 38 in both rears. Two was at 38/38 across the board. Both cars had Toyo Nanoenergy 195/65/15. The only difference was the Two had the accessory body side moldings. Same route and speeds, 52.3 in Eco and 48.7 in Two.

I have had the Energy Saver on three different Pruii and have nothing but good things to say about them. With mostly highway miles it was easy to get 100k out of a set even though the UTQG is only 480. Recently I had to make a decision about tires for the 2013 v. The original Turanzas, UTQG 360 had 49k on them and were starting to hydroplane. The Energy Saver at Tire Rack was $132 each. Ouch! Then I checked the Ecopia 422+, UTQG of 600, only $75 each. I have been quite impressed withe the same tire on the Two Eco so I went for the Ecopias. So far I can say that they are noticeably better than the Turanzas. The Energy Savers may or may not be better, but with a significantly lower price point, and a higher UTQG, the Ecopias are the better value in my opinion.
