    Hi All,

I am in Process of buying an out of state Toyota Prius Trim 3 with nav at a Toyota Dealer with 38k miles, so the car is certified from Toyota 7/100 and the 12000/12 month warranty....

The sales person made a video of the car for me and drove it filming it me every detail he could. It had some pint chips on the driver side lower front bumper area and the front windshield was cracked which is being replaced. Everything else look looks clean except for some minor stuff.

I asked for the car to be detailed and the 40k service to be performed and everything in writing. They are having the car shipped out to me from 500 miles away...

So should I ask for anything else? Car Maint package, mats, protection for door or rear bumper cargo protection and should I be looking for anything else. The car fax is clean, car looks super clean..

    Thanks, for any input

Buying the car sight unseen is risky. If the car was rare, I'd understand but it's Prius. Take whatever they are charging you to ship the car for a plane ticket out there to test drive. 500 miles can be driven in a day. I'd rather be out a plane ticket if there is something wrong with the car rather than dealing with an $18,000 lemon with a dealer 500 miles away.

I purchased brand new 2006 prius shipped from another state without test drive and did not have any problems with the vehile. I would be little bit concerned on 38000 miles for 2015, miles seems abit high. Average miles is 73.5 miles a day, using 517 days( from Jan 1 2015 to May 31, 2016). If I were you I would go Costco, get their network dealer(s) and purchase new 2015. The price not be as used certified but you will get a new 2015 car.

Understand, so far the dealer has gone beyond trying to help me with any issues and making a in depth video of the car and even video taping the test drive, it's toyota cert, Carfax checks out and shows it was a personal lease. I work from home so we only put maybe 3 or 4k miles on a car a year and we still have out 2008 Prius with 31k miles on it we use. In the long run we will sell the older Prius and buy a Hybrid smaller suv or wagen ..

about 14 years ago I bought a Audi A4 from a dealer on ebay, I put some insane low bid and won the car, and it had zero issues, I had that car for 7 or 8 years before buying a new one. Its a roll of the dice, but I am tying to check all the boxes, thus the reason I asking, should I get the toyoya car care plus option?

BTW: One of the reason i started looking out of area was Pricing in Silicon valley and bay area is a Joke and most of the cars I have looked at are lease returned cars teh dealers took in and they look trashed. I found one 2013 Blue Prius, that was ok, great price, but not the color we wanted, so I looked outside the state and people seem will to work with you and go the extra mile...

    Thanks

I would verify that each required service interval was performed and at what mileage; it will tell you how to previous owner maintained the car.

Thats one of the things I saw on Carfax, so I told them besides the Toyota Cert inspection, I wanted the 40k Service and not just the oil change and filter stuff, I said tell the service manager I want the main caught up, they said they would handle it.

You may not get the 10yr carb warranty if you buy out of state

Why wouldn't you get the 7/100k cert Toyota warranty if you bought it out of state? Is that what you are talking about?

So the person in the loan Department tried to sell me all the extras... 7/100 full bumper loan for 1995.00, car Maint till 55k for 595.00, even Gap Ins, Tire Ins, and if all else fails Electronic Ins for like 800.00....

I was used to Audi and BMW and MB, so on, Cert Car you get 7/100k coverage, and thats bumer to bumper, but Toyota gives you 7/100 power train and 12 month/ 12k bumber to bumber warranty... I think Toyota needs to stop bragging about Cert cars and step up to the plate like the rest fo the dealers....

i would never ever buy a hybrid with that kind of driving.

no, he is talking about 10 year/150k miles hybrid warranty.

Perhaps they did at one time but not anymore. Audi, BMW, and MB do not have 7/100 coverage on CPO. They are 6/100 and moving towards 5/75 on newer models. I think with your low usage the 7 year warranty albeit limited power train from Toyota is more important. I also think the 10/150 hybrid warranty is more important as well in buying in state or CARB state. You might not get that buying out of state as some already said.

If you're leasing or upside down on an auto loan, gap ins isn't a bad idea. If the car is totaled, you still owe the lease/loan contract minus the value of the car; this can amount to thousands. Check with your insurance company; it's probably cheaper thru them.

Sorry for the long delay, I had the car shipped with uship, A guy with a enclosed transport was in the area and had the car here in one day in perfect condition, so far other then needed a really good detail the car is great, the dealer on the other hand needs to learn how to deal with out of state buyers. Now I have to wait for the title to process in AZ DMV, then TFS, and then they have to send it to CA DMV, I got tired of he game and paid the car off, so see if that messes things up, should have just bought it outright.. grrrr

I wasn't worried about the Prius not passign a smog test, pretty sure they are the same in every state, as for the savings, I pretty much got a 2015 for the price of a 2013 here in Silicon Valley. I am Happy with the car, now I need to stop buying stuff for, the dealer did forget the floor mats, so I asked them to send them.
