I don't think so. If you're goal is to find something more readily available, maybe WD40.

It's funny that kerosene seems now to mainly be available in larger volumes; you don't need a lot. Camping supply stores?

Definitely not charcoal lighter fluid. Gas stations don't sell kerosene like they used to.

If you don't already have anything around the house buy "tar & road oil remover". The can I have says it contains ethylbenzene, xylene, and petroleum distillates. You'll eventually need it to get the road crap off your rocker panels.

Never rub or scrub a painted surface as your are likely to cause scratches. If they aren't too far down in the paint ScratchX can work. I don't know about any of the products that claim to be able to restore any color.

^ Oh hey, perfect. And comes in small bottles.

    Either would be fine.

Thanks all well I tried turtle was bug and tar I sprayed some on and let it set 5 to 15 minutes I did not work very well then. I added a little car wax into the mix and gently rubbed the little spots with a microfiber cloth that did not work very well either
I then washed the car to get all the stuff off and spots started coming off as I moved the wash not over the car
My question is why did that work? Was it the process of bug and tar / wax then wash ?
Or maybe just the soap and water acted as a solvent

There are still a lot of little spots but I think another wash might be the next step and then something else

I should add I used my fingernail and finger tip to nudge the little spots as I washed which was very effective

Sounds it's slowly coming off! I'd think it's more tenacious due to sitting a month.

Have you tried clay like others have suggested at the beginning of the thread? They are designed to take out whatever a normal wash doesn't take out. I'd do that before using harsh chemicals on your paint.

I did not think bug and tar was harsh and the spots are pretty big I will try the clay I once I get it but I am not sure if it will work on the larger stains
At any rate I am slowly getting the car back to normal I hope
