It means your key battery is low and needs to be replaced.

    Don't believe me? :D

Go to Google translate English to Japanese and translate: replace key battery

Most of the characters are the same. ;)

Just to confirm, this is a Japanese domestic market car, right?

It tells you only very little power left on your key battery. Base on my own experience, the key battery will die in about a week after this message pop up. You should check how to start the car without key battery in case you won't be able to replace it on time.
How do you get Japanese firmware? It'll be pretty cool if I can have it on mine.

To the Op, it would be helpful if you also put your location in your profile. (y)

I'm assuming you're from Africa, India or Pakistan where the import of used RHD JDM cars are very popular. Many of these cars will have sat at the docks for weeks, sat on a ship for weeks and then sat at the dealers compound for weeks before being sold.

As you've made a significant investment in this car, you may want to protect your peace of mind by replacing both the keyfob battery (easily obtainable) as well as the 12v battery which is situated in the boot on the right hand side. The Prius isn't a fan of being jump started (don't get it wrong or it'll be expensive) and the 12v is a weird size, but it isn't that expensive to replace. Once you've changed both batteries you should have a reliable and fuel efficient car.

Oh, to get the best economy you might want to keep your tyre pressures correct, use expensive 0w20 oil every 10,000 miles/16,000km. It is hard to find but really does bring the best economy and performance out of the gen 3 Prius. Finally, make sure passengers in the back don't block the vent!

The a/c condenser at the front is liable to stones hitting it, so maybe an additional metal mesh may help? Otherwise the Prius should be ok.

    Enjoy :D

I can't read Japanese, so am guessing here. Have you checked the 12 volt battery? It is possible that it might need to be replaced.

I can't read Japanese either, but I will ask my coworker when I get a chance.

OK, my Japanese coworker translated the message.

Your auxiliary battery (12v) is low and needs to be replaced.

If your car is telling you that the 12v battery is about to die, by all means, and as quickly as you possibly can, get a new one installed pronto. All sorts of bad can happen when the 12v can't start the computers and other gadgets in your car.

Why don't they provide a corresponding English message when appropriate in the North American version?

Most of the people posting these inquiries have JDM imports in other countries like Pakistan and Australia, etc.

Thank You very Much all friends,
I gonna check the 12v Battery.

But just to point out that i changed my 12v Battery in June 2015 to a Bosch 45 Ah and its only 1 year i have been using the 12v Battery and its almost dead.
Can anyone suggest me how is it possible? Is there any problem?
    Thank in advance

Cell phone tower nearby? or airport or radar? Do you keep the keys within about 20 feet/8 meters of the car when it's locked? Have you checked the boot/trunk light as sometimes they don't turn off correctly - ie make sure the hatch is fully closed or maybe turn that light off.

Failing that, don't use 'ACC' mode when listening to the radio as the 12v is quite weak and takes longer to charge up with a hybrid. Use nomal mode to listen to the radio etc. Also, if you hand the car to a dealer to service it make sure you turn off the interior lights as many dealers will open all the doors and leave them open for hours while they work on your car.

Charge up the 12v and see if it's healthy and holds its charge. If it doesn't, just get rid. A proper Prius 12v is cheap enough and has all the correct vent tubes etc.

That doesn't answer why, if Toyota provides warning of a failing 12V in Prii in their domestic market, they don't do the same for versions sold elsewhere. That might reduce some of the complaints from unhappy customers that they're surprised when the battery leaves them stranded, supposedly without warning.

Sorry, misread your original post. Yes, I agree that a similar message would be desirable in USDM vehicles. :)
