    oh crap.....Here we go.
    All warning lights appeared yesterday.
I added oil (it was low..I have 155k miles on car). however, this did not clear the warning lights.
Drove her into work this morning (40 miles). SOC worked well without incident. Car appeared to operate fine.

I do not have a reader and have no established relationship with any dealers.
Anyone suggest somewhere I can take my vehicle to get it checked out?
I'm in Pomona for work today.....than travel back home to OC (HB specifically) for weekend.

    Thank you!

How much oil did you have to add?

You would need to get the codes read, it could be something fairly minor like a failed inverter pump to something major like a failed hybrid battery

You can try for assist from Toyota USA on cost reduction for new batt, if it comes down to that. But you'd have to get the codes read by Toyota, and negotiate a little ...takes a little while for them to respond. You're over 10-yr warranty but you're in CA so that's a plus possibly worth a try.

If you're a DIYer, you could stop in a local auto shop parts store and have your OBD codes read. Most places will read the codes for free and then you can google to see what needs to be fixed.

If I was on the road with the same problems I'd take the car either to 1 - A hybrid specialty repair shop (google hybrid repairs in google maps, etc.) or 2 - A Toyota dealership. Most local auto shops aren't specialized in Prii, and therefore are more likely to make mistakes when repairing and leave you stranded longer.

    Thanks Fella's.....
JC....added just over 1 quart. All freeway driving. I did the inverter coolant change @ 100k. Also had performed cleaning of the cooling fan around the same period.
WJTracy....thanks.....yes....I read the post that mentioned Toy USA helped our one member with his battery replacement at $200 so that's definitely on my radar.
Kevin....Yeah, have read mixed reviews about local parts shops ability to read codes. I'll try and get out at lunch time here near my work and see what's available.

First thing to do, get the codes read.

Dealership would read the codes for maybe $50~75. Likely they're the only ones that would get everything; other places with generic readers are not as successful? And best informed to propose a course of action.

Your oil was low enough that it might have been the cause of your warning lights.

From what I've heard here, by the time you get a low oil pressure warning light you're crazy low, virtually no oil. The distance between the two marks on the dipstick is something like 1.5 quarts, and I believe Toyota says anywhere in that zone is within spec.

Thanks Don....Yes, that was my hope...however, having now added oil....would that automatically clear the codes?

Low oil indicator - I never got any low oil indicator.....straight to red triangle

I don't know if the warning lights will clear themselves with time. You could clear them by disconnecting the 12V battery for a minute which will clear nearly all codes. If there are serious other problems, the lights will return.

    Sorry to hear that.

That's about the same as our 2005 Prius (245,000km and 11.5 years). It spit out that code back in February.

So.....did you abandon the 05 and purchase the 2010 at that point?

We put the cost of the battery replacement (CAD$3,000 incl. taxes and labour) towards the purchase of a 2016. We had to wait a month since the Canadian launch was in March.

The 2010 was bought in 2009. It currently has 125,000km on it.

So.....how do we figure the value of a 2005 Prius with a dead hybrid battery?
It may be time to trade up!

If you have the time, I can check the car for you. I'm 20 minutes west of Pomona.

Send me a pm if you want

Best guess would be to determine what your 2005 would've sold for with that mileage in your area and then subtract the estimated cost to replace the battery.
