No, but I constrain myself to its capacity. That's why I want to know the capacity.

Thanks for the tech documents Danny

I gather that the Prime comes with a charging cable fitted to the Prime on one end and a US 110v outlet on the other.
How is a 240v/20A (16A continuous) outlet accommodated, since the expected plug is different ?

You'd have to buy a 240V charging cable or charger (or have the standard one modified - not just the plug) to accommodate 240V charging.

    I think I am following ...
A 240v EVSE that plugs into the Prime. What port(s) does the Prime have ? Chademo ? SAE J1772 ?

The Prime has the standard L2 J1772 port in the US. It has space for a Chademo port in other regions.

The document in the OP says that the car can be set to standard draw of 8A or 'max'
What is the max amp draw ?
Does it vary by voltage ?
Am I correct in thinking that the owner is given a choice to pull up to max rating of the EVSE to the limit of the car ?

I'm now wondering if I should just upgrade a breaker on a 110v circuit to 20A if the wiring to a convenient isolated outlet will support a 16A continuous draw. That would be good for about a 1.7 kW AC stream to the car, so perhaps 1.4-1.5 kW DC to the battery and a 3.5 hour charge time ... I think.

    Thanks for the help!

It draws 12A at 120V and 16A at 240V. The 8A programmable limit applies to the 120V source for sure, I'm not sure if it applies to the 240V source or not.

I'd like to be sure I understand your answer:

    120v:
    Max draw of 12A
Has an 8A setting in the car (as default ?)

    240v
    Max draw of 16A
May have an 8A setting (as default ?)

Sorry for being dense about this, I'm a (hopefully) careful newbie

    MERGED

The Prime has a max 3.3 kW draw rate.
Is this 3.3 kW AC before the AC/DC converter or 3.3 kW DC after the converter ?

    I wondered after realizing that 240v * 16A = 3.84 kW AC

8A is the alternate, not the default.

3.3kW is the charger output, not input.

The ultimate limit for SC charging is the charger installed in the car.
The EVSE(the charge cable) that comes with the car is limited to 12A. To get faster charging from a 20A outlet, you'll need a EVSE that can handle the higher amperage.
If the line is only 15A now, I'd look into going to 30 or 40 amps instead of 20A. The Prime won't charge faster, but you'll be set if a BEV is a future consideration.

I'm confused about pre-heating, since it seems to vary by trim

I expect to buy the base 'plus' but have not completely excluded the advanced (for the 3 door SKS.)
Is cabin pre-heating and/or battery pre-heating available using the home charger rather than the battery charge ?

This statement is only true if you charge with the Toyota supplied portable EVSE ("cable"). Using third party's portable L1 EVSE with a current limit of more than 12A you will charge the prime faster. The car charger is not limited to 12A on L1, it is a 3.3kW charger.
    See as an example this

It's always from the battery. However, if you are on charge at the same time the charger can make up some of that draw (L1) or all of it (L2) while the heating is in progress.

Excellent -- thanks very much for the replies.

Sounds like another good reason to place an L2 charger at home. If only the car was smart enough to roll up my windows before pre-chill in the summer :)

A 16amp EVSE still won't let a Prime charge faster off of a 30, 40, or even 50 amp outlet, which is what you quoted was referring too.
L1 is limited to 120V, and that EVSE can draw over that amount. Offering an adapter so that a 16amp appliance can be plugged into a 15amp outlet is setting the seller up for a lawsuit.

It was mentioned here or in another thread the level 2 specs was 16A/240V. That requires a 20amp circuit EVSE. You want the draw of the appliance to be lower amperage than the outlet rating. The circuit breaker should trip when the outlet rating is reached.

thanks, and what's the max amp at 120v?

It's not specified. However, the logical possibilities are 12A (the default) and 16A (the 240V current draw). I find the likelihood that it's power-limited (i.e. that it could charge at 3.3kW at 120V if current were available) to be low.

What I said is that 16A EVSE will let the Prime charge faster than the stock 12A one.
As for the adapter thing, you completely misunderstood the seller statement, it is not an adapter to the 15A outlet but to the EVSE side to mate a 20A outlet.
