The new discharger will be a little faster
Marginally faster, maybe an hour or two faster than the light bulbs. To speed it up significantly increases costs, which is a big part of why the Professional grade 3A unit will cost so much more.

Awesome system to prolong the battery life and save $$$!

It is more economical to do go to a mechanics who has this system rather than buy chargers. Not everyone has a garage to themselves! ;) Does any mechanics in New England or Massachusetts who can do this kind of maintenance work for the Prius?

That's good to hear. I think a KEY VALUE in your product is making the process "idiot proof" (although nothing can be made idiot proof because idiots are so ingenious). Plug and Play charging seems to be taken care of, but since it's possible to discharge and do damage, a system that makes it plug, play and forget is of particular value. I'm not dumb enough that I can't do it the light bulb way, but it would be much easier to plug something in and just check on it from time to time to see if the process is complete. Having to check voltage readings and change bulbs is a bit involved and it forces you to plan the discharge/charge/condition cycle for when you KNOW you will have the time to "babysit" the process.

It's like doing a major repair job on your car. You don't want to start on a Tuesday night something you might not finish before bedtime or you won't have a car to drive the rest of the week...you have to save those jobs until Friday night when you can go two days without needing the car (and don't have other plans).

The "smart" discharging system is a bit pricey, but it's selling point is that it's simple and foolproof to use.

Oh, and is there/will there be a difference between the new battery discharger you just mentioned and the "Intelligent" discharger already on your site?

The existing setups look like the manual discharge process vs. the high-drain automated process. Is your idea to make the current manual discharge process "automated" so it's simpler to do (but not necessarily faster).

I would like to see some independent testing to prove that it actually provides any benefit; enough to be worth the investment.......of doing it yourself OR having a shop do it. Part of that would be that you can actually make a significant difference to individual cells without actually visiting each cell individually.

This is the first I've heard of "Parts and People" magazine.

Why so negative? The complete system has a certain price. Removing some features allows a lower price... what do you expect? He seems like a very honest and straightforward vendor to me.

We have a growing network of reseller installers all over the globe. Here is a link to their locations, hopefully one is close to you:

Agreed. I don't like the risk of the light bulb dischargers. We have a large product liability insurance policy but still~! As soon as we can get the new Discharger released and gauge market acceptance, we will begin exploring phasing out the light bulb dischargers.

    Here you go:
Independent Techstream Testing - Hybrid Automotive
Show me proof. Have any before/after tests? - Hybrid Automotive
    and
    Parts & People

Our products work. After all these years, we would not be in business still if they did not. We are working hard to bring our products to the larger market and it's natural for people to be wary of disruptive technology. The fundamentals are the same as module level reconditioning which has been around for almost a decade and it widely accepted. The only/key difference is in how it is applied. Talk to a few people on this forum who have USED our products and let them tell you how well it worked for them.

    :)

Will is a good friend and valued customer. He was being a little cheeky with his post :). He wants us to share a new accessory that he is the first customer of, but the rest of you will have to wait a tad longer (soon Will, soon).

I'm not trying to run you down because I have no reason to do that; it would gain me nothing.

BUT.....two of the three references you provided in that post are on your OWN web site and one (maybe both) doesn't even reveal the full name of the person who is quoted.

Right is right and a valid independent test should be fully documented to be something a customer can rely upon.

What you have provided in this thread are anecdotal, unverified reports.......that quite frankly could be completely made up.

And the fact that you are still in business really proves nothing.......except maybe that you are good at marketing techniques.......and the product does no real harm.

Sorry but I call them like I see them.

Has anyone who owned one of your chargers used it to keep the battery full before departure, increasing Fe a bit on shorter trips?

Also any plans to port this over to the Gen IV or v ?

Hooray! It's here - the tracking said December 24th, but it arrived today (…thank you Santa! …and thank you Jeff! :)) …so I think it's about time for another re-condition session - I had the 5000 mile service done a couple of weeks ago, and don't plan on using the car over the next 3 or 4 days - the last full recon. was done back in July, and a short charge at the beginning of October. I've noticed that around town I'm getting between 40 and 50 mpg with the SoC spending most of its time showing around 60-75% - on longer runs the mpg goes up to 50-55, but it all depends on the season (temperature and gas mix). The odometer has just turned over 117,000 - Thanks, Jeff for your tolerance to my British humour, all the best to you and your family for the New Year! (…and Happy New Year to all the rest of PriusChat! ;))

How co-inkydink. We are on the same bi-annual conditioning schedule. I got my charger & bulb discharger in July and will be doing the second conditioning routine beginning tomorrow. The car sits for many days at a time but now no longer loses bars in between. I charge on the first weekend of every month.

You don't frequent the Gen2 forums much do you? OK, fair enough. Here is the original source of the independent techstream testing:
Quantitative Results of Grid Charge/Discharge | PriusChat

Here's a independent review from a fellow Priuschat member:
    HybridAutomotive.com Charger Impressions | PriusChat
and another independent review from a Priuschat member:
[Review] Prolong Reconditioning Kit | PriusChat
    and another:
    Prolong discharge times? | PriusChat

If those aren't enough here are hundreds of reviews on our eBay page:
    eBay Feedback Profile for hybridautomotive

And dozens more on our FB page:
    Hybrid Automotive LLC | Facebook

I won't bother linking to Amazon but their are reviews there as well.

Statistical long term data analysis is not practical. That is why Dorman has not done it for their batteries. It would take identical cars driving identical roads at identical battery loads in identical climates over years and years and years. Just like Dorman, we're not going to do this. Instead we offer the next best thing: Testimonials for hundreds and hundreds of customers who have extended the life of their hybrid batteries by using our products. Rational buyers who are considering our products will evaluate these reviews and see a trend - that our products work.

Our products work for the same reason that cycling individual modules with hobby chargers work, our application is innovative and this is why we have patents pending, but the baseline technology is widely known. It does not need to be to be proven all over again.

    OK, I give up.

You have an overwhelming amount of.......mostly testimonial, non-scientific results from satisfied customers.
There is nothing wrong with that.
People just need to understand that NONE of that is really proof.
Large numbers of people can be fooled by a good story. We have proof of that just in the past few months. :(

I will now shut up because I have no evidence that your product does NOT work.
    I wish you well.

To be honest, it would be prohibitively expensive to collect the sort of data you're requesting, so I don't think it's fair to discredit them just for that reason. Someone will think of ways to evaluate the technology at some point.
