Last night I noticed water leaking from the window on the rear hatch back :( and when I took a closer look, I found both upper and lower panels are not even installed all the way correctly. Gah, im so down now! I was loving my new Prime and now it feels like I got some sub standard work and stuff just slopped together :( doesnt feel like a new car when its all messed up like this.. and who knows if the dealer will even be able to fix it right or if it will always leak or start leaking again behind the panels and ruin stuff down the road. I was hoping to keep this car for a while. :(

I am new here and will try to post some pictures.

Guys, I could really use some words of encouragement...

    **Update 7-24-17**

What a day and many phone calls. By the end up of day I finally got word of what they thought was going on. The dealer was able to verify the leak. They dont think its coming from the curved glass. They said its the small below that and they think it just needs resealed. They said they have to take it to a 3rd party to have the work done. I am personally very concerned about 3rd party work on a new car. I voiced this with the manager and suggested a possible replacement and he was kinda condescending and said I am over overreacting. I dont know, maybe I am overreacting.. So anyways, I talked to Toyota corp and voiced how I felt and they said they would contact me by end of business day tomorrow. So guess we will see how Corp feels about it. Shortly after all this the Service manager called me. This guy was great and understanding, I was actually impressed with him. He explained things better in a way. They dont know why the trim was the way it was and not installed correctly. They think this is a very rare case with the widow and the trim.

So, Tomorrow I should hear back from Toyota Corp and how they feel about 3rd party work and my worries about such. I wont know about how my window turns out until the end of the week if I am lucky. And if I am lucky I will find out if the window just needs re sealed and reinstalled or if a new window needs to be ordered from Toyota. *sighs*

    **Update 7-26-17**

I got my Prime back today! :)
They Did a good job by the looks of things and looks better than how I got it new. They said it was finished yesterday but needed to sit inside for 24 hours after being resealed. So I want to give it a few more days to set up some more for good measure before I go and run it though a car wash. However ill do it here in a few days and take video in case anything weird happens.

    **Update 7-27-17**

Well, I took the Prime through the car wash today, good news no water leaks that I could see! So that makes me pretty happy. However I did see the lower panel pretty far out from the glass. I am not sure if this is just how it is on the Prime or if they still did not get it put back together correctly. I can stick my fingers in between the plastic and the glass the gap is so big. I have taken some pictures, ill post it up here. maybe one of these other wonderful Prime owner can take a look at theirs and see if its just that big of a gap or if there is something wrong with mine. Ok, next thing I noticed. The handles got installed backwards :(
Another strange problem. Sometimes theres a vibration like maybe the wheel balance is out. I had them check it out while it was in the shop. they checked the tires and all is good. I drove it home and it was all good. However today driving on the freeway, the vibration is back. and something else I noticed is that it seems to get worse if I turn to the right and its not as back if im turning to the left. o_O
im starting to worry my Prime really does have a curse, or something.. Brand new and less than 1500 miles and ive had more problems with my Prime than I have had with my 2014 Volt I bought new and had 3 years and 32k miles or my 2008 Prius and 100k miles. what the actual fork!

    -----
    ***Update 1-29-17***

Took a 3 hour round trip, vibration and noise has got worse. It didnt start before until around 60 and now its at 40

    -----
    ***Update 1-30-17***

Well, got the trim and the handles fixed today. Meet the service manager today, he is a pretty good guy and I enjoyed talking to him. I did bring up the problems with the vibration thats getting worse, he said they did balance and check out the tires on this really expensive machine. so if the tires are good, then im worried its mechanical like maybe wheel bearings or something... but they want me to wait 5k and check it back out then.. I dont know how I feel about that though, not really happy with that.. I am thinking maybe try a different dealer and see what they find out.

I think this has been the most stressful car buying experience I have ever had. I am starting to wish I had my car I traded in back.

    ------
    ***Update 2-2-17***

Well, quick update. I took the Prime to another dealer yesterday. They been pretty awesome and trying to go out of their way to make me happy and to make things right with the car. They found the body plugs were missing and should have been installed by the previous dealer. However they said they found no vibration, but offered to do a ride along with a tech and took up that offer. however, the vibration and noise was gone o_O drove it later that night on a 45 mile round trip and no prob as well as today, no vibration or noise.

Welcome to PriusChat! If your car is that new, I would think a word with the dealer might be your best course of action at the moment (you might mention the words warranty, good-will, reputation during the conversation!) - I certainly would want my new car to be practically PERFECT in every way! (…that's right, just like Mary Poppins!) In fact when I purchased my 2009 Gen II (used) back in early 2014, I discovered within about an hour of taking delivery (…well, actually it wasn't delivered, I collected it and drove it home!) I discovered during the walk-around that one of the marker lights didn't work, so they fixed it, no problem. And earlier last year, I was visited by the Bad Combination Meter Problem (see threads passim), and the dealer not only fixed it, but loaned me a brand new Camry while they took the car in and did the repair (it took three-weeks for them to get the part (there must have been lots of simultaneous failures). The repair was under warranty, no charge for the loaner since it was a safety issue (no speedo display), so all in all I thought the local Toyota Dealer did the honourable thing! Good luck with getting the leaks sorted out! - hope this helps - Wil

Oh, and BTW, don't feel down! I do not know about the Prime (although many folk here will be able to advise you), but my Gen II Prius is my third Toyota - My last one before this was a 1993 Corolla DX Wagon, I drove it for 21 years, put 282,000 miles on it and it absolutely broke my heart when it failed its inspection, so I traded it in for my Prius, and I LOVE MY PRIUS!!! (…I hope that cheers you up a bit!) ;):):D

Might just be condensation forming on the inside of the glass and running down. It's the weather we've been having the last week or so.

IMHO, in general stay away from first year production vehicles. They are always the test subjects.

Thank you for all the tips! and for cheering me up a bit too! :)
I have already taken the car into the dealer and they did lend me a newer 4th gen Prius, its very much like the prime :)

Good idea, did think of contacting toyota directly. I will check out the website and see about that

I had thought and wondered this as well. So I dried it up lastnight with some paper towels. I folded down the back seats and laid back there while I had my friend drive it into a car wash. A good deal was spraying up out of there, though I could not tell where it was coming from. The pictures I took was just after that when we got out of car wash and back home in the garage.

Well I sent an email to Toyota and was able to attach the photo's. I will keep everyone posted on what they say and what the dealership does as well.

I'll see if I can replicate it by using 'blue' masking tape to hold some tissue around the base of the glass. I'm not sure I want to use a car wash wand to replicate 'horizontal rain' but will think about it.

OP, sorry to hear about the defect.

The Good News: You bought a Toyota. It will be fixed appropriately.

P.s., any chance you can change the title to something more descriptive ? It will help any future searches.

You paid for a new car. Take it back and make sure they fix it and you are happy with the work. It cost an arm and a leg to buy a car today. Get it like you want it. Oh, and let us know the results.
