I think he was asking if it was from the Cambridge, ON plant or NUMMI.

The Cambridge plant is first plant to manufacture a Lexus vehicle outside of Japan, so it speaks to the quality of products that come out of the plant (Corolla, Matrix, Solara and at one point, RAV4, before it moved to Woodstock, ON). Cambridge manufactured the RX330/350. (The RXh was still manufactured in Japan).

Now TMMK has taken the second honour and produces the ES350. TMMK should be very proud of themselves. Toyota takes Lexus very seriously and the quality control on those vehicles is higher (lower tolerances for errors/misalignment/panel gaps etc).

Not many dealers have a body shop in-house so it's almost always done by a 3rd party. My warranty work on the seat was done by a 3rd party upholstery shop for example.

It'd be nice but dealers are there for sales and service, not for repairs unfortunately - that's what body shops are for. I don't know how it works in the US but locally up here, certain body shops do work for certain dealers so at least you know that they're familiar with the vehicles and that the work is done well (otherwise the dealer is on the hook and then they can take their business elsewhere so the body shop does not want to lose a client).

It wasn't too bad. I found a small tear in the upholstery and got it replaced. It didn't take long (just a day - as if I was taking the car in for service)

around me, some dealers have body shops, and some don't. it's probably a matter of space.

Of course (and I dont have a dog in this race) but Im pretty sure that I could fire up the pressure washer and penetrate the entire hatch area at the level of the rubber seals with water in my prime as the OP. In fact just learned/ confirmed that high pressured water was involved. Point is ... didn't completely make sense but now coming into focus.

Well this was an automatic car wash, I was not in control of the washing wands. Im sure if I was I could also make any car leak. but this was with the automatic wash.

Clearly there are exceptions .... but I would have no overt concern about a 3rd party body shop doing warranty work. I would rather a qualified body shop performing the work rather than unskilled dealership personnel. A body shop has the skill and all the tools, sealants and fasteners necessary to perform the work.

If you still have doubts and have access to the Velocity Network on cable, look at the incredible work body shops perform.

Actually from what I was understanding. It sounded like they had to take it to a shop and then the shop takes a look at it and may need to call in a glass place. Or so I think it was explained

I would not be concerned about third party. Glass repair is not their normal work, and they probably have a body shop they work with regularly. That's what happened with our glass repair, on an Accord (many years back).

All they can reasonably do is repair the car to like-new condition and warranty the work.

Before doing the repair, check their yelp reviews. Don't settle for any bodyshop /repair less than 4 stars.
