Is there a way of enabling a setting to close the windows with the key fob? I only see the open option on carista..

I requested them to have it set before I took delivery of my car. Works well (not as good as on a FORD, but, oh, well, close).

Really? That's so weird. If I had to choose one, I'd prefer closing be the option. You know just in case I forgot to close them or it starts raining and I can close the cracked window from inside.

Wonder if that could be something to do with a lack of auto stop feature - to avoid accidentally trapping fingers etc?

I thought somebody mentioned testing the auto stop feature in the US with a safe object.

I tried it a long time ago - not sure if it was my VOLVO 940, KIA or FOCUS - with a tennis ball, then a squash ball. It stopped both times before it would have snapped a finger - maybe not a new-born, but they don't tend to play with window switches?

Some years back, my SWMBO slammed my drivers door closed with my fingers in the area where the window frame is and it latched shut, luckily the window frame distorted enough not to cause any damage and my fingers were saved by the door seals. :X3:

My sister did exactly that to me once, in a Honda Civic!

I said something like, say, would you mind opening the door again for a sec? and she sort of wondered why, so I used my free hand to point to the one stuck in the door, and she shrieked omigodomigodomigod and opened the door again, really gingerly like she was expecting to see my fingers on the road, but my hand was fine (little door-seal dents across the back), and anyway she was really nice for a while afterward.

On the Prius gen 4 european manual it says that opening and closing windows with the wireless remote or mechanical key can be customized by a dealer or other qualified person. I guess this means by service software or service menu in the vehicle.

I wonder if someone here knows if there is some key combination to open a service menu? Should I pay Toyota to use the repair manual for day and find out...It could turn out I need some OBD2 plug to unlock the menu though

There is no key combination. It requires Toyota Techstream software that is only old to dealers. Some people sell "bootleg" versions that seem to work though. I believe the Android Carista app can access some items too.

My dealer used the software to adjust the backup beep at no charge when I had my car in for the 5K mile service.

if I read the Carista page correctly, the short subscription for $9.99 speed you to adjust windows. Of course you must decide if the price, including the purchase of a Carista is worth it. May i suggest you ask your dealer of they can do it at the next service like ProdigyPlace suggested. They may charge a fee, but it could be cheaper than doing it yourself. They might even haggle the price down with you if you can tell them you can do it yourself for X amount. Good luck anyway.

A minor correction: Toyota does license the Techstream software, for a fee, to anyone, not just to dealers, though some functions related to immobilizers are restricted to authorized independent locksmiths. As noted elsewhere, they were also happy to sell me a Mongoose interface cable to use with it.

Even with Techstream, though, Jacuna has it right: for cars with the U.S. version of the main body ECU, customization is limited to opening, but not closing, the windows by remote control.

I can only speculate about Toyota’s reasons, but one factor might have been Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 118 (49 CFR §571.118), paragraph S4(d), which requires that a remote control for power windows must be “incapable of closing the power window [. . .] from a distance of more than 6 meters from the vehicle.” I’ve definitely used my key transmitter from farther away, and perhaps Toyota’s product planners thought customers would appreciate greater range more than a remote window-closing feature.

In the U.S. version of Techstream, there is a parameter (under Power Window) called “P/W Down W/ Transmit,” which the U.S. edition of the Repair Manual (RM3200U) describes as a “Function to open the power windows using the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.” There is no mention of a similar function for closing, and the differences between the U.S. and European editions of the Owner’s Manual make it clear that this is intentional. In Europe (emphasis added):

    ■ Power windows and moon roof

    Mechanical key linked operation (open)
    Mechanical key linked operation (close)
Wireless remote control linked operation (open)
Wireless remote control linked operation (close)
Mechanical key, wireless remote control linked operation signal (buzzer)

    In the U.S. (emphasis added):

    ■ Power windows and moon roof

    Mechanical key linked operation (open)
    Mechanical key linked operation (close)
Wireless remote control linked operation (open only)
Mechanical key, wireless remote control linked operation signal (buzzer)

I don’t know how this limitation is enforced—by Techstream, in the main body ECU, in other ECUs, or in some combination of these—or whether third-party software like Carista would be able to overcome this.

I used Carista app to set up global opening and closing of the windows on my Gen 4, here in the UK, cost £10 GBP for 1 month and £9 (IIRC) for a bluetooth OBD connector off Ebay. Dealers want around £40 just to plug Techstream in.
